The Uranus line
The Uranus line, in one breath

Try this today
- Think of a place where you changed your life suddenly. Check it for Uranus.
- If you need a shake-up but not chaos, look for a Uranus line a few hundred kilometres away rather than right on top of it.
Some moves are less a relocation and more a jailbreak. You quit the job, cut your hair, join a community you had never heard of a month ago, and feel more awake than you have in years. That is the Uranus line in full voltage.
Uranus was the first planet discovered with a telescope, by William Herschel in 1781, and modern astrology gave it the themes of revolution, invention, independence and surprise. In astrocartography its lines are read as places where routines break and your unconventional side gets room.
That is thrilling if you are ready for change. It is draining if you need stability. Astrocartographers often describe Uranus lines as wonderful to visit and hard to settle on.
Uranus moves slowly, spending about seven years in each sign, so people born in the same few years share its sign. Its lines, though, are as personal as anyone else's: they depend on your exact birth minute.
The sky behind it
Uranus, 1940 to 2026: 2.0′ a day on average, all twelve signs, declination -23.71° (September 2, 1989) to +23.71° (February 28, 1950).
Uranus rising (AC)
Uranus rising (AC line): the freest version of you

On Uranus's rising line, the tradition reads independence, originality and a need to be yourself without apology. The tradition reads feeling restless, inventive and less bound by other people's expectations.
It can be a brilliant line for reinvention, for tech and creative work, and for anyone coming out of a restrictive situation.
It is a poor line for anyone who needs predictability. Expect surprises.
The sky behind it
Apollo 11 sample, July 20, 1969 20:17:40 UTC. Uranus AC curves through 152.3°W at 40°N, 151.9°W at the equator, 151.6°W at 40°S. 3 within 300 km: Anchorage (146 km), Fairbanks (238 km), Papeete (239 km).
Uranus setting (DC)
Uranus setting (DC line): unusual relationships

On the setting line, Uranus comes through others. Astrocartographers read sudden attractions, unconventional partnerships, on-off relationships and partners who value freedom.
It can suit open-minded couples, long-distance arrangements or anyone who wants a relationship that does not follow the script.
For a steady, traditional partnership, the tradition would look elsewhere.
The sky behind it
Uranus DC: curves through 28.4°E at 40°N, 28.1°E at the equator, 27.7°E at 40°S. 16 within 300 km: Johannesburg (17 km), Chisinau (30 km), Pretoria (32 km).
Uranus overhead (MC)
Uranus overhead (MC line): career pivots

Uranus at the top of the sky is read as an unconventional career: technology, science, innovation, activism, freelancing and sudden changes of direction.
The tradition reads unexpected opportunities and unexpected endings, sometimes in the same year. Visibility can arrive overnight.
It is a strong line for founders and inventors and a bumpy one for anyone who wants a steady ladder.
The sky behind it
Uranus MC: runs straight down the meridian at 61.9°W. 1 within 300 km: Halifax (129 km).
Uranus underfoot (IC)
Uranus underfoot (IC line): an unsettled home

On Uranus's IC line, change moves into the home. The tradition reads frequent moves, unusual living arrangements, shared houses, communes and a family life that breaks the mould.
It can be freeing for people who want to live differently, or for leaving a family pattern behind.
It is one of the lines most traditions call unsettling for a long-term home.
The sky behind it
Uranus IC: runs straight down the meridian at 118.1°E. 8 within 300 km: Nanjing (68 km), Hefei (73 km), Tianjin (76 km).

History
A planet the ancients never used
Uranus is faintly visible to the naked eye but was not recognised as a planet until William Herschel's telescope observations in 1781. Classical astrology used only the seven visible bodies. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto entered astrology in the modern era, so their meanings are modern readings, not ancient ones.
