A transit is an aspect between a planet where it is now and a planet where it was when you were born. The shared sky is the same for everyone; your transits are what make today yours. Slow planets, Jupiter through Pluto, stay in orb for weeks or months and describe a season. The Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars pass in hours or days and colour the day.
The readings come from Shymea's interpretation library for transiting-planet to natal-planet contacts. They describe what a contact tends to ask, not what will happen.
How it is computed
Your natal positions are computed from the JPL DE442 ephemeris. Today's positions come from Shymea's live sky table, which the engine refreshes every thirty minutes from the same ephemeris — the identical numbers the app's Today tab reads. Every transiting planet is compared to every natal planet for the five major aspects (orbs 8° conjunction and opposition, 6° trine and square, 4° sextile, plus 1° for a luminary), and each contact is marked applying if its distance from exact is shrinking.
Aspects to the Ascendant and Midheaven are not included unless your birth time is known, because those points move a degree every four minutes.
Common questions
- Which transits matter most?
- Exact contacts from slow planets to the Sun, Moon, angles or chart ruler. A one-degree Saturn square to your Moon deserves more attention than a wide Mercury sextile. The tool sorts by planet speed and then by orb for that reason.
- What does applying mean?
- The aspect is still tightening toward exact. Separating means it has passed exactness and is easing. Applying contacts tend to feel like something building; separating ones like something being digested.
- Is this the same as a daily horoscope?
- No. A horoscope by sign uses one placement, the Sun sign, and guesses. This compares the actual sky to your actual chart. Rhythm in the Shymea app does the same each morning and writes it up as a personal letter.
- Why does the list change during the day?
- The Moon moves half a degree an hour, so Moon transits come and go within the day. The slow-planet section is stable for weeks.
