Free tool · Solar return

Solar Return Calculator: your birthday chart.

This tool computes your solar return for a chosen year: the moment the transiting Sun reaches your exact natal Sun longitude, then the chart cast for that instant at your birthplace. You get the return Ascendant, the house the Sun occupies, and a table of every planet in the return chart.

Free, no account. Birth details are used only for this calculation and are not stored. Privacy.

Method: see how Shymea calculates.

The solar return falls within a day or so of each birthday; the exact instant shifts each year because the tropical year is not a whole number of days. The chart's angles depend on the location used, so a relocated return (cast for where you are) will have different houses.

How this is calculated

We compute the natal Sun longitude from your birth data, then find the instant in the chosen year when the Sun's tropical longitude equals it, and cast a Placidus chart for that instant at the birth coordinates using the JPL DE ephemeris.

Full method notes are on the methodology page.

Common questions

Which year should I pick?
The return that starts in the chosen calendar year. Your current return is the most recent birthday's; select next year to see the coming one.
Why is the time not exactly my birth time?
The Sun returns to its natal degree at a different clock time each year, drifting by roughly six hours a year and resetting on leap years.
