You have the date circled on the fridge calendar. Everyone keeps asking about it. And somewhere around week 20, you start wondering: so what sign is this kid going to be?
Here is how it works. Your baby's Sun sign, the one people mean by "zodiac sign," is the sign of the zodiac the Sun is passing through on the day they are born. The Sun spends about a month in each sign, so if your due date sits in the middle of a sign, you can be fairly sure.
The catch is the due date itself. It is calculated as 40 weeks from the first day of your last period, and plenty of babies arrive in the weeks around it. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists calls 39 weeks 0 days through 40 weeks 6 days full term and 37 weeks through 41 weeks 6 days the wider term range (ACOG).
So the honest answer is a range. If a sign change falls inside that window, your baby could be either sign, and the calculator below counts how many days land on each side.
The sky behind it
Sun signs here are tropical, the standard in Western astrology: the zodiac is measured from the March equinox. Sign changes are the moments the Sun's geocentric apparent longitude crosses a multiple of 30°, computed with skyfield and the JPL DE442 ephemeris.

- Write the birth time to the minute on the day. Hospital paperwork usually has it, but your notes app is faster.
Sign changes do not happen at midnight. In 2026 the Sun leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius at November 22, 2026, 07:23 UTC, and reaches Capricorn at December 21, 2026, 20:50 UTC, the moment of the December solstice.
That means a baby born on Nov 22 in New York in the small hours is a Scorpio, and one born that afternoon is a Sagittarius. The calculator converts every sign change into your own time zone, so the day count matches the calendar on your wall, not ours.
It also means horoscope-column dates are approximate. "Sagittarius: November 22 to December 21" is close, but the real boundaries move by up to a day from year to year, and they are different in Sydney and Los Angeles on the same day.
If you are due within three or four days of a change, think of it as a fun coin flip. You will know the answer the moment you write down the birth time.

Your baby's Moon sign is the sign the Moon is in at the moment of birth. In astrology it is read as the emotional side of a chart: what comforts you, what you need when the day goes sideways. Parents often find it the most interesting placement to read about.
It is also the hardest to guess from a due date. Across November 2026 to December 2027 the Moon changes sign every 2.3 days on average, and the gap ranges from about 47 to 61 hours. In 2027 alone it changes sign 160 times.
Take a due date of November 15, 2026. In the week around it the Moon passes through Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. A baby who is a few days early or late has a different Moon sign, and sometimes a few hours is enough.
So the calculator shows the Moon signs in the days around your due date, with the exact change times in your time zone. Treat it as a shortlist. The birth time settles it.

Some people time a pregnancy, or hope for a scheduled delivery date, with a zodiac sign in mind. It is natural to be curious, and it is fine to have a favourite.
But please do not let a sign steer a medical decision. ACOG advises against non-medically indicated deliveries before 39 weeks (ACOG). Timing belongs to you and your care team, not to the sky.
Astrology works better as a way to get curious about a person than as a box to put them in. Every sign has its tender side and its stubborn side. A Scorpio baby is not a "difficult" baby, and a Leo is not automatically a show-off. You will meet your actual kid soon enough, and they will surprise you.
