  • Find your sign below and open its page: each one has the exact start and end for 2026 and 2027 in five time zones, plus that season's New and Full Moons.
  • If your birthday is between the 18th and the 23rd of a month, skip ahead to the cusp checker.

Most horoscope pages print one set of dates and reuse it forever: Aquarius January 20 to February 18, and so on. That is fine for a birthday in the middle of a sign. It is wrong, sometimes, for a birthday near the edge. So here is 2026 as it actually happens.

The year opens in Capricorn. The Sun moves into Aquarius at Jan 20, 2026, 01:45 UTC, Pisces on Feb 18, and Aries at Mar 20, 2026, 14:46 UTC, the exact moment of the March equinox. Then Taurus on Apr 20, Gemini on May 21 and Cancer at Jun 21, 2026, 08:25 UTC, the June solstice.

The second half: Leo on Jul 22, Virgo on Aug 23, Libra at Sep 23, 2026, 00:05 UTC (the September equinox), Scorpio on Oct 23, Sagittarius on Nov 22, and Capricorn at Dec 21, 2026, 20:50 UTC, the December solstice.

Four of those twelve moments are the solstices and equinoxes, and that is not a coincidence. The Western zodiac is measured from the March equinox, so the cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, always begin on the first day of an astronomical season.

The sky behind it

Each instant is when the Sun's geocentric apparent ecliptic longitude (true ecliptic and equinox of date) crosses a multiple of 30°, found with skyfield and NASA JPL's DE442 ephemeris. Our 1950-2030 run agrees with the site's existing DE442 sign-change table to the minute across all 972 changes, and the 2027 equinox and solstice times match the US Naval Observatory's published table to the minute.

Why lists disagree

Why one site says January 19 and another says January 20

  • In the checker below, switch the time-zone chips and watch which 2026 changes move to a different date where you live.
  • Ask a friend in another country what day their sign started in their birth year. Then check it here.

There are two reasons sign dates wobble, and neither is anyone being sloppy.

The calendar. The Sun takes about 365 and a quarter days to come back to the same spot, but our calendar year is a whole number of days. So the sign changes drift a few hours later every year and snap back after each leap day. Across 1950 to 2030, Aquarius began on January 20 in 70 of 81 years, on January 19 in 7, and on January 21 in 4 (UTC dates). Some signs are true coin flips: Leo started on July 22 in 42 years and July 23 in 39, Capricorn on December 22 in 41 and December 21 in 40.

The time zone. A sign change happens at one instant for the whole planet. In 2026, Aquarius begins at 01:45 UTC on January 20. In Sydney that is Jan 20, 12:45 PM. In New York it is Jan 19, 8:45 PM, and in Los Angeles Jan 19, 5:45 PM: still January 19. So a baby born on the evening of January 19, 2026 in California is an Aquarius, while a baby born that morning is a Capricorn.

The same thing happens at the Taurus line: in New York, Taurus 2026 begins at Apr 19, 9:39 PM, the evening of April 19.

The sky behind it

Date counts come from our own 1950-2030 DE442 run (972 sign changes) and use the UTC calendar date of each change. Local dates for a birthplace can differ by one day either way.

The cusp question

Am I a cusp sign? The honest answer

You cannot be half Aquarius. You can be born an hour after the Sun got there.Alexander Jamieson, A Celestial Atlas, 1822 · US Naval Observatory Library

Try this today

  • Enter your birthday with your birth time in the checker. If it says you were within 24 hours of a change, look up your Mercury and Venus signs next.
  • No birth time? The checker still tells you if your sign could go either way on that date.

"Cusp" gets used two ways, and it helps to pull them apart.

In everyday talk, a cusp sign means you were born within a day or two of a sign change, and the idea is that you carry a blend of both. That blend is a modern, popular-astrology idea. Classical sources such as Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos treat each sign as an exact 30-degree stretch of the zodiac: the Sun is in one sign or the next, never both.

In technical astrology, cusp mostly means the starting line of a house in a birth chart, which is a different thing entirely.

So what is true for a cusp birthday? First, you have one Sun sign, and the checker on this page will tell you which, to the minute. Second, if you were born near a change, your Sun sits at a very early or very late degree, and planets that travel close to the Sun, Mercury and Venus, are fairly likely to be in the neighbouring sign. That is often where the "I feel like both" sense comes from, and it is worth a look.

The fix for confusion is not a blended label. It is your birth time and place.

The sky behind it

The checker reads the same DE442 sign-change table as the rest of this page (1950-2030, to the minute) and converts your local birth time to UTC with your time zone's historical daylight-saving rules. The Sun's degree comes from astronomy-engine, which agrees with DE442 to within seconds of time for the Sun.

Next year

  • Compare the 2026 and 2027 tables below, row by row. The minutes column tells the story better than any rule of thumb.

If you are planning ahead, or you are expecting a baby in 2027, here is how next year compares.

Every sign change in 2027 lands about 5 hours 48 minutes later than in 2026. Aquarius moves from Jan 20, 2026, 01:45 UTC to Jan 20, 2027, 07:30 UTC. Aries moves from 14:46 UTC to 20:25 UTC on March 20.

That slide adds up. Leo began on July 22 in 2025 and again in 2026, but Leo 2027 begins at Jul 23, 2027, 01:05 UTC. Capricorn 2027 begins at Dec 22, 2027, 02:42 UTC, so in Europe and Asia the December solstice falls on December 22.

Then 2028 brings a leap day. Signs that start before February 29 keep sliding (Aquarius 2028 starts Jan 20, 2028, 13:22 UTC), but from Aries on the dates jump back: Aries 2028 begins Mar 20, 2028, 02:17 UTC, about 18 hours earlier in the day than 2027's 20:25 UTC.

The sky behind it

The average shift is the mean, over the twelve signs, of (2027 instant minus 2026 instant minus 365 days): 348 minutes. It is close to the length of the tropical year beyond 365 days, about 5 h 49 min; the Earth's elliptical orbit and the Moon's pull make each sign's shift slightly different.

Birthday months

What birthday month is Aquarius? Every month holds two signs

Months and signs are two clocks running at the same speed, set about ten days apart.Urania's Mirror, London 1824 · Library of Congress

Try this today

  • Open your birth month's page for the switch date in the year you were born.

People search "what birthday month is Aquarius" a lot, and the honest answer is two: the last ten or so days of January and most of February.

That pattern holds for every sign, because the zodiac and the calendar run at almost the same speed but start about ten days apart. In 2026, here is where each month changes hands (UTC):

  • January: Capricorn, then Aquarius from Jan 20, 01:45 UTC
  • February: Aquarius, then Pisces from Feb 18, 15:52 UTC
  • March: Pisces, then Aries from Mar 20, 14:46 UTC
  • April: Aries, then Taurus from Apr 20, 01:39 UTC
  • May: Taurus, then Gemini from May 21, 00:37 UTC
  • June: Gemini, then Cancer from Jun 21, 08:25 UTC
  • July: Cancer, then Leo from Jul 22, 19:13 UTC
  • August: Leo, then Virgo from Aug 23, 02:19 UTC
  • September: Virgo, then Libra from Sep 23, 00:05 UTC
  • October: Libra, then Scorpio from Oct 23, 09:38 UTC
  • November: Scorpio, then Sagittarius from Nov 22, 07:23 UTC
  • December: Sagittarius, then Capricorn from Dec 21, 20:50 UTC

So a "February sign" is either Aquarius or Pisces, a "July sign" Cancer or Leo, and so on. Our month pages go deeper, with the exact change for every year from 1950 to 2030.

Long and short signs

Why Cancer lasts 31.5 days and Capricorn only 29.4

Every sign is exactly 30 degrees wide, but the Sun does not cross them at a steady pace. Earth moves fastest in early January, when it is closest to the Sun, and slowest in early July. From here, that looks like the Sun hurrying through the winter signs and dawdling through the summer ones.

In 2026 that makes Cancer the longest season (31.5 days) and Capricorn the shortest (29.4 days). Northern summer really is a few days longer than northern winter.

Other zodiacs

Sidereal and constellation dates are different, on purpose

The dates here are the tropical zodiac that Western astrology uses, anchored to the seasons. Vedic astrology uses a sidereal zodiac anchored to the stars, so its signs start about three weeks later. And the actual constellations, including Ophiuchus, are unequal in size, so their dates are different again.

None of these cancel each other out. They are different rulers. See sidereal dates for 2026 and the real constellation dates.

Quick answers

What are the zodiac sign dates for 2026?

In 2026 the Sun enters Aquarius Jan 20, Pisces Feb 18, Aries Mar 20, Taurus Apr 20, Gemini May 21, Cancer Jun 21, Leo Jul 22, Virgo Aug 23, Libra Sep 23, Scorpio Oct 23, Sagittarius Nov 22, Capricorn Dec 21 (UTC dates). The year opens in Capricorn, which began on Dec 21, 2025. Each sign starts partway through its first day, so check the exact time in the table if your birthday is on one of those dates.

Am I a cusp sign?

If the Sun changed sign within about a day of your birth, people call you a cusp baby. Astrologically you still have one Sun sign, the one the Sun was in at the minute you were born. Put your birthday, time and place into the cusp checker on this page and it tells you which sign, the Sun's degree, and how many hours you were from the change.

What birthday month is Aquarius?

Aquarius covers the end of January and most of February. In 2026 the Sun is in Aquarius from Jan 20, 2026, 01:45 UTC to Feb 18, 2026, 15:52 UTC. Between 1950 and 2030 Aquarius began on January 20 in 70 of 81 years, so late-January and mid-February birthdays need the exact time.

What are the Aquarius dates for 2026?

Aquarius 2026 runs from Jan 20, 2026, 01:45 UTC to Feb 18, 2026, 15:52 UTC. In New York that start is Jan 19, 8:45 PM, and in Los Angeles Jan 19, 5:45 PM, so evening births on January 19 in the Americas are already Aquarius.

Why do zodiac sign dates change every year?

The Sun takes about 365.24 days to return to the same point (the tropical year), but a calendar year has 365 or 366 days. So each sign change slips about 5 hours 48 minutes later each year, then jumps back about a day after a leap day. Add time zones, and the same instant can fall on two different dates around the world.

What are the zodiac sign dates for 2027?

In 2027 the Sun enters Aquarius Jan 20, Pisces Feb 18, Aries Mar 20, Taurus Apr 20, Gemini May 21, Cancer Jun 21, Leo Jul 23, Virgo Aug 23, Libra Sep 23, Scorpio Oct 23, Sagittarius Nov 22, Capricorn Dec 22 (UTC). Aquarius 2027 starts at 07:30 UTC on January 20, and Aries at 20:25 UTC on March 20, the March equinox.

Is January 19 Capricorn or Aquarius?

Usually Capricorn. Between 1950 and 2030 the Sun entered Aquarius on January 19 (UTC) in only 7 years. But in 2026 it enters at 01:45 UTC on January 20, which is the evening of January 19 across the Americas (Jan 19, 8:45 PM in New York). So a January 19, 2026 baby born in the evening in the US is an Aquarius.

Did my zodiac sign change because of Ophiuchus?

No. The Western zodiac is tied to the seasons, not to the constellations, so the dates on this page are the ones Western astrology uses. The constellation dates are a different measurement; our pages on the 13th sign and on real constellation dates show both.
