Try this today
- Watch where the Sun sets on the evening of the equinox. It sets almost due west.
Aries begins with a change you can see in the light. It starts at the March equinox, the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator heading north, and in 2026 that happens at Mar 20, 2026, 14:46 UTC. Day and night are close to equal everywhere, the northern spring opens and the southern autumn starts.
That is also why Aries kicks off the zodiac. The Western signs are counted from this point, so 0° Aries is not a star or a constellation, it is a season. Every other sign date on this site is measured from it.
The Sun stays in Aries for 30.5 days and moves into Taurus at Apr 20, 2026, 01:39 UTC.

Born around March 20? The Pisces-Aries line
Born on March 20 or 21? You are in the most famous cusp zone of the year, the Pisces to Aries line, and the answer really does depend on the year.
Between 1950 and 2030 the Sun entered Aries on March 20 in 59 years, March 21 in 22 years (UTC dates). In 2026 it arrives at Mar 20, 7:46 AM in Los Angeles and Mar 20, 10:46 AM in New York, so a March 20 morning birth on the US West Coast is still Pisces. In Sydney the change does not come until Mar 21, 1:46 AM, so every March 20, 2026 baby born in Sydney is a Pisces.
Moons in Aries
Moons and planets, Mar 20 2026 to Apr 20 2027
Aries has a busy 2026. Two slow planets cross its starting line early in the year, Neptune in late January and Saturn in mid-February, and both stay well beyond 2027. Astrologers treat that kind of arrival as a long, slow chapter rather than a single day, which is why it shows up in so many 2026 forecasts.
Inside Aries season itself, the New Moon falls on Apr 17, 2026 at 27°29′ Aries, a late-degree New Moon right before the sign hands over to Taurus. The Full Moon of the season is in Libra, on Apr 2, 2026 at 12°21′ Libra.
Visitors to Aries:

Aries, briefly
