Best match for Taurus: Capricorn, then Virgo

Taurus is not in a hurry. It wants someone who shows up, means it, and appreciates a really good dinner. Earth signs do that by default. Water signs make it feel like home.

The short answer

Why Capricorn tops the list for Taurus

Taurus builds the home. Capricorn builds the life around it. Neither leaves halfway.Urania's Mirror, London 1824 · Library of Congress

Try this today

  • Cook together instead of going out. For earth pairings, a shared meal is a love language.
  • If you are dating a Capricorn, ask about their goals. Then ask what they do for fun. The second answer matters more.
  • Look at your Venus sign. Most Taurus have Venus in Aries or Gemini, not Taurus, which adds more spark than people expect.

You know what you like: the same coffee order, the soft sweater, the person who texts when they said they would. Taurus is the fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, and it loves through the senses and through consistency. Flakiness is the fastest way out of your life.

Capricorn comes first. It is earth like you, so it values the same things: loyalty, effort, security, something real at the end of the work. But Capricorn is cardinal, the earth sign that sets goals, while you are fixed, the one that holds steady. Capricorn plans the future and you make the present worth living. That is a strong division of labour.

The risk is a relationship that is all logistics and no play. Taurus can remind Capricorn that a long lunch is not a waste of time. Capricorn can remind Taurus that comfort is better with a plan behind it.

Tier one

Virgo and Capricorn: earth signs who keep their word

With another earth sign, Taurus never has to wonder where it stands.Johann Bayer, Uranometria, 1603

With Capricorn, the bond is ambitious and loyal. You both think long term, you both respect money and effort, and neither of you plays hard to get for sport.

With Virgo, the bond is gentle and practical. Virgo is the mutable earth sign: it notices what you need and quietly takes care of it, and it appreciates the beauty and calm you bring. Virgo can over-think and Taurus can dig in, so the friction, when it comes, is a worrier meeting a wall. Patience from both sides goes a long way.

Capricorn offers more drive, Virgo more daily care. Both offer the thing you value most: being able to count on someone.

Tier two

Cancer and Pisces: water that makes the garden grow

Earth gives water a shape. Water gives earth a reason to bloom.Johann Bayer, Uranometria, 1603

Cancer is the homemaker of the zodiac, and you are its happiest guest. Both of you love comfort, family and food, and both of you are fiercely loyal once you commit. It is one of the coziest pairings in astrology.

Pisces brings romance and imagination to your steadiness. It is soft, artistic and intuitive, and you give it a safe place to land. You may have to drag a Pisces back to earth about practical things, and Pisces may have to coax you into dreaming a little.

Both sextiles feel safe. The thing to watch is comfort turning into avoidance: two homebodies can skip the hard conversations for years.

The wild card

Scorpio: the opposite with the deepest pull

Taurus holds on with its hands. Scorpio holds on with its soul. Neither lets go easily.Urania's Mirror, London 1824 · Library of Congress

Scorpio sits across the wheel from you, and this is one of the most intense pairings in the zodiac. Both are fixed signs, both are loyal to the bone, and earth and water combine well. Taurus is about what you can touch and keep; Scorpio is about what lies under the surface.

The chemistry tends to be physical and immediate. The difficulty is that neither of you backs down. Two fixed signs in a standoff can go silent for days. Couples who last here learn to say "I was wrong" early and often, which is hard for both and worth it.

Woman or man

Taurus woman, Taurus man: the same earthy list

Taurus woman or Taurus man, the wheel hands back one list. Magazine profiles still make her the earth goddess and him the provider. Both caricatures miss the real Taurus tell, which is pace: Taurus decides slowly and then stays, and a partner who rushes that will lose, whatever the gender.

What actually changes from one Taurus to the next is Venus and Mars. A Taurus with Venus in Gemini wants banter and variety; a Taurus with Venus in Taurus wants slow, reliable devotion. Mars shows how you pursue and how you fight. Those placements are in everyone's chart, and they explain why two Taurus can have opposite types.

Beyond the Sun

This is the surprise for Taurus: even though Venus rules Taurus, only about a fifth of Taureans in our sample have Venus there. The single most common placement is Venus in Aries, which brings speed and boldness to love, followed closely by Venus in Gemini, which adds flirting and talk. So the slow, sensual Taurus lover is only one version.

Venus never strayed more than 45.7° from the Sun for anyone born a Taurus, 1965 to 2009, which is why only 5 Venus signs turn up.

The sky behind it

Mars spreads wider: Gemini is the commonest at 14.3%, Capricorn the rarest at 3.2%.

The hard ones

Leo and Aquarius: the squares

All three are fixed signs, so nobody likes to bend. Leo wants applause and grand gestures; Aquarius wants freedom and ideas; you want calm and consistency. The elements clash, but fixed signs are also the most loyal. When these pairings work, they work for decades. Getting there takes compromise you have to practise.
