The 8th house has a reputation. Traditional astrologers linked it with death and inheritance; modern ones add intimacy, shared money, debt, therapy and transformation. It is the house where two people's resources, and two people's secrets, merge.
So is an empty 8th good news? Some sites say yes, and we would rather not play that game. An empty 8th does not protect you from loss, and a full 8th does not cause it. What it describes is that merging, of money or of emotional walls, is not a constant pressure in your chart. You go into the deep end when you choose to.
The sign on the 8th describes how you handle closeness and shared stakes. Scorpio there (Gemini rising) is all-or-nothing. Libra there (Pisces rising) needs fairness before trust.

The practical upside of an empty 8th is less drama in the areas that cause it most: joint money, power struggles, jealousy. When those themes do come up, they usually arrive with a transit, Pluto or Saturn crossing the house, and leave when it moves on.

A note on the old "death house" label
Hellenistic astrologers did call the 8th the house of death. Modern practice reads it as endings and change in general. No responsible astrologer predicts death from a chart, empty 8th or otherwise.
