Why Pisces is The Moon

Try this today
- Keep a notebook by your bed for one week. Write down your dreams, even the boring ones, and see what repeats.
- Notice when you absorb someone else's mood. Ask: is this feeling mine?
- If your Moon or Venus is in Pisces, read The Moon for your intuition and how you love.
Pisces zodiac sign: dates and traitsPisces myth and constellation
Pisces cries at commercials and remembers their dreams in full colour. They pick up on the mood in a room before anyone speaks, and they're the friend who'll make you a playlist for your exact feelings. They also need a lot of sleep and a fair bit of time alone.
Book T gives Pisces to XVIII The Moon, "The Ruler of Flux and Reflux; the Child of the Sons of the Mighty," with the Hebrew letter Qoph, often read as the back of the head. It's a quietly poetic match. The back of the head is where the old instincts live, and The Moon is the card of dreams, intuition and everything that's hard to see clearly.
In the 1909 Waite-Smith card, a moon with a face shines between two towers. A dog and a wolf howl up at it, and a crayfish crawls out of a pool onto a winding path. It's the most mysterious image in the deck, and Pisces, the last sign before the zodiac starts over at Aries, is the sign that lives comfortably in mystery.
The sky behind it
Book T calls The Moon "The Ruler of Flux and Reflux; the Child of the Sons of the Mighty" and gives it the Hebrew letter Qoph. Its number, XVIII, never moved: Marseille, Waite-Smith and Thoth all agree on it.
On the 1909 card
What The Moon shows, and what it asks a Pisces

A moon with a face between two towers, a dog and a wolf howling up at it, a crayfish crawling out of a pool onto a path that winds away to the hills.
The path in The Moon runs between the dog and the wolf, the tame and the wild, and on toward distant hills. Nobody in the card knows exactly where it goes, but it's there, and it's walkable.
For a Pisces, The Moon is permission to trust your intuition while staying honest about what you don't know. In a reading it often points to confusion, dreams or something not yet revealed. The advice is usually to go slowly, feel your way and let things become clear in their own time.
The three decans
Pisces's three minor cards: the 8, 9, 10 of Cups

Pisces is mutable water, so it ends the Cups with the 8, 9 and 10. Book T titles them Abandoned Success, Material Happiness and Perfected Success. The suit of feeling ends the zodiac with leaving, wishing and arriving.
8 of Cups, Lord of Abandoned Success · Saturn in Pisces, 0° to 10° Pisces · Feb 18 to Feb 28, 2027
A cloaked figure walks away from eight neatly stacked cups toward rocky hills under a moon that shows both a full and a crescent face. Saturn's decan is Abandoned Success: walking away from something good that no longer feels right. Pisces knows when it's time to go, even if nobody else understands why.
9 of Cups, Lord of Material Happiness · Jupiter in Pisces, 10° to 20° Pisces · Feb 28 to Mar 10, 2027
A contented man sits with arms folded in front of nine cups lined up on a curved, cloth-covered table. Jupiter brings Material Happiness, nicknamed the wish card. It's one of the most cheerful minors, and for Pisces it's a reminder that dreams can come true in ordinary ways.
10 of Cups, Lord of Perfected Success · Mars in Pisces, 20° to 30° Pisces · Mar 10 to Mar 20, 2027
A couple raise their arms to a rainbow of ten cups while two children dance beside them, a house in the distance. Mars ends Pisces, and the zodiac, with Perfected Success: family, belonging, love that feels like home. The suit of Cups closes on its happiest image.
The sky behind it
8 of Cups: 9.9 days. 9 of Cups: 10.0. 10 of Cups: 10.0. Longest this cycle, the 10 of Cups; shortest, the 8 of Cups.
The court cards
The Knight of Cups and the Queen of Wands

The Knight of Cups ("The Lord of the Waves and the Waters", 20° Aquarius to 20° Pisces, Sun Feb 9 to Mar 10, 2027) holds Pisces's first twenty degrees; the Queen of Wands ("The Queen of the Thrones of Flame", 20° Pisces to 20° Aries, Sun Mar 10 to Apr 9, 2026) has the last ten.
The Knight of Cups, Book T's "Lord of the Waves and the Waters," carries most of Pisces. He is the romantic of the court cards, the dreamer offering a cup, the person who follows feeling first.
At 20° Pisces the Queen of Wands takes over, "The Queen of the Thrones of Flame." Her span reaches to 20° Aries, so she carries the dream across the equinox and into the bright fire of the new zodiac year.
The ruler
Jupiter, Pisces's ruler, and Wheel of Fortune

Try this today
- Lay The Moon and the Wheel of Fortune together. Write down one thing you're unsure about, then a date in a month to check how it looks.
- Find your Jupiter sign, and your Neptune sign if you use modern rulers.
Jupiter is Pisces' traditional ruler, and Jupiter's Major Arcana card is X Wheel of Fortune. Modern astrologers often add Neptune as a co-ruler, and some modern decks link Neptune to XII The Hanged Man, but that's a modern addition; Book T gives the Hanged Man to the element of water.
The Moon and the Wheel are both cards of cycles. The Moon waxes and wanes; the Wheel turns. For Pisces, that means nothing stays foggy forever. Good luck comes round, and so does clarity. The trick is to trust the turning instead of fighting it.

When it comes up hard
The Moon reversed, or on a bad day
Reversed, The Moon can show confusion lifting, or fear and illusion getting louder. For Pisces, the shadow is often escaping: into daydreams, scrolling, other people's problems. The gentle fix is a little structure. Not a cage, just a fence around the pool so you don't fall in.

Quick answers
Is Pisces The Moon or The Hanged Man?
In Book T, Pisces is The Moon. The Hanged Man belongs to the element of water. Some modern systems link The Hanged Man to Neptune, Pisces' modern co-ruler, which is where the confusion comes from.
What does The Moon card mean for Pisces?
Intuition, dreams and uncertainty. The card shows a path between two towers under a strange moonlight, and for Pisces it often means trusting your instincts while going slowly until things become clear.
What is the Pisces decan card for early March?
Usually the 9 of Cups, the Jupiter decan from 10° to 20° Pisces, which the Sun crosses from about February 28 or March 1 to March 10. Birthdays from about March 10 to the equinox get the 10 of Cups.
What tarot card is Pisces rising?
The Moon, the same as any placement in Pisces. Book T assigns cards to signs, so a Pisces rising shares The Moon with a Pisces Sun.
When is Pisces season in 2026 and 2027?
Feb 18, 2027, 21:33 UTC to Mar 20, 2027, 20:25 UTC, then Feb 19, 2028, 03:26 UTC to Mar 20, 2028, 02:17 UTC.
