February 2027: two eclipses and a Mercury retrograde
Valentine's Day 2027 sits inside a Mercury retrograde, between an annular solar eclipse and a lunar one. By strict electional rules this is the hardest month of the year.

Why February 2027 is the toughest month on the calendar

Try this today
- Date already booked in February? Use the time of day: check the void-of-course hours below and avoid the void stretch.
- Keep a legal ceremony small in February and hold the big party on a Best date in April. Plenty of couples split the two.
- Want the Valentine's feeling without the retrograde? Saturday, April 10 and Saturday, April 17 are both rated Best.
We know. February has Valentine's Day, the cosy candlelit photos, the off-season prices. So it feels unfair that the sky stacks up the way it does in 2027.
Here is the sequence. An annular solar eclipse on February 6 at 17°38′ Aquarius. Mercury stations retrograde on February 9 at 5°59′ Pisces and stays retrograde until March 3. A penumbral lunar eclipse on February 20 at 1°59′ Virgo. Mars, retrograde since January, backs from Virgo into Leo on February 21. Every one of those is something traditional electional astrology asks you to step around.
The result: by our rules only February 1, 2 and 3 escape the Avoid tier, and all three fall under a waning Moon, so they rate Fair. Valentine's Day 2027 is a Sunday inside the Mercury retrograde, with the Moon in Taurus applying to a square of Mars.
If February is fixed for you, for a visa, a family member's travel, or just because, that is fine. Lots of people marry in retrograde months and astrology here is a tradition, not a verdict. If the date is still open, January 15 to 19 or the first half of April gives you a much cleaner sky.
The sky behind it
February has no Good day; Feb 1 carries none of void Moon. How the scoring works.

The sky this month
An eclipse season, explained without the drama

Eclipses come in pairs about two weeks apart, when a new and a full moon both fall near the nodes, the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. February 2027 holds one of those pairs: the solar eclipse on the 6th and the lunar eclipse on the 20th.
Electional astrology has long avoided starting things right on an eclipse, because the lunation is read as unsettling the things that begin under it. We use a three-day buffer either side as a hard rule and take five points off anything within ten days. NASA's catalogue lists the February 6 eclipse as annular and the February 20 eclipse as penumbral, a subtle dimming most people would not notice by eye.
The next eclipse pair comes in July and August 2027.
