The best days to get married in 2027, read from the real sky
We scored all 365 days of 2027 the way electional astrologers have for centuries: Venus and Mercury, the Moon's light and sign, its void hours and the eclipses. 12 days pass with top marks.

The short answer
April and December hold 2027's strongest wedding dates

Try this today
- Shortlist three dates your venue can actually do, then run each through the checker below with your ceremony time.
- If you are flexible on the weekday, the Thursday and Monday picks in April score as high as its Saturdays.
- Open your month's page for every day rated, plus the void-of-course hours in your time zone.
You have the person. Now you need a date, and somewhere between the venue's availability spreadsheet and your aunt's opinions, someone mentions Mercury retrograde. Fair enough. Here is what the sky actually says about 2027.
We took every day of the year and ran it through the classic tests of electional astrology, the old branch of astrology for choosing a start time. Is Venus, the planet of love, moving forward? Is Mercury, the planet of agreements? Is the Moon growing? Is it void of course? Is there an eclipse nearby? Then we added points for the details traditional texts care about, and took points away for the ones they warn about.
The result: 12 Best days and 46 Good days in 2027. 6 months contain at least one Best day, and April has the most, 5 of them. The single highest score of the year belongs to Thursday, April 8, 2027: waxing crescent moon, moon in taurus (exaltation), venus in pisces (exaltation), moon applies by sextile to venus.
If you need a Saturday, the four that rate Best are Apr 10, Apr 17, Nov 13 and Dec 11. February is the hardest month, with 25 of its days in Avoid.
One promise before the details. None of this predicts whether a marriage lasts. It is a tradition for choosing a beginning that feels considered, and you can use as much or as little of it as you like.
The sky behind it
Method: skyfield with NASA JPL's DE442 ephemeris, geocentric apparent longitudes, tropical zodiac, rated by UTC calendar day. The Moon is waxing on 181 of the year's 365 days at 12:00 UTC.
How it works
The four tests every wedding date has to pass

Try this today
- Mercury and Venus must both be direct. A day that contains a station counts as retrograde.
- No eclipse within 3 days either side.
- The Moon must be waxing (between new and full, measured at 12:00 UTC) and clear of the Sun's beams (at least 15° from the Sun).
- The Moon should not be void of course for most of the day. Days with 6 or more void hours cannot be Best; 12 or more drops a day to Fair.
Lesson: electional astrology basicsVoid-of-course Moon today
Electional astrology goes back at least to the Hellenistic and medieval astrologers, who wrote rules for when to marry, travel, build or sign. Modern Western practice still leans on a handful of them, and they are the ones this calendar checks first.
Venus direct. Venus is the planet of love, pleasure and partnership in every Western tradition. When it appears to move backward (retrograde), astrologers read affection as turned inward, a time for revisiting old loves rather than formalising new ones.
Mercury direct. Mercury rules words, contracts and signatures. A wedding is, among other things, a legal agreement, so a retrograde Mercury is treated as a poor time to sign one.
A waxing Moon. The Moon is the fastest-moving body in the sky and stands for how things unfold. Starting while it grows from new to full is one of the most repeated rules in the literature. We also want it at least 15° from the Sun, clear of the "beams."
No void Moon, no eclipse. A Moon that has made its last aspect before changing sign is called void of course, and the tradition says matters begun then go nowhere. Eclipses are read as unsettling lunations, so we keep three days either side clear.
The planets of 2027
Good news: Venus never turns retrograde in 2027

Try this today
- Cross the three Mercury windows off your shortlist first. It is the fastest way to halve the options.
- Planning a 2028 wedding? Note the Venus retrograde dates now, before you fall for a venue.
Venus turns retrograde about every 19 months. Its last retrograde ran from October 3, 2026 to November 14, 2026, and the next one does not start until May 10, 2028. 2027 is a full Venus-direct year, which is about the best thing a wedding calendar can say.
Mercury is busier. It turns retrograde three times: Feb 9 to Mar 3, Jun 10 to Jul 4 and Oct 7 to Oct 28. Counting the days on which it stations, that is 70 days of the year in Avoid for Mercury alone. Each retrograde also has a "shadow" on either side, the stretch when Mercury is crossing the same degrees, and we take five points off those days without ruling them out.
Then there is Mars, the planet of drive and friction. It is retrograde from January 10, 2027 (10°26′ Virgo) to April 1, 2027 (20°56′ Leo). That costs every day in the window ten points, which is why January, February and March 2027 have no Best days.
The sky behind it
Stations: Mercury retrograde 2027-02-09 17:36 UTC at 5°59′ Pisces, direct 2027-03-03 12:32 UTC at 20°55′ Aquarius; Mercury retrograde 2027-06-10 18:15 UTC at 6°22′ Cancer, direct 2027-07-04 19:39 UTC at 27°28′ Gemini; Mercury retrograde 2027-10-07 14:37 UTC at 4°56′ Scorpio, direct 2027-10-28 14:10 UTC at 19°19′ Libra; Mars retrograde 2027-01-10 12:59 UTC at 10°26′ Virgo, direct 2027-04-01 14:08 UTC at 20°56′ Leo.
Eclipse seasons
5 eclipses, two seasons to plan around

Eclipses arrive in seasons about six months apart, when new and full moons line up with the lunar nodes. 2027 has two such seasons.
The first is in February: a annular solar eclipse on Feb 6 at 17°38′ Aquarius and a penumbral lunar eclipse on Feb 20 at 1°59′ Virgo. It overlaps a Mercury retrograde and Mars retrograde, which is why February is the year's hardest month.
The second runs from July into August: a penumbral lunar eclipse on Jul 18, a total solar eclipse on Aug 2 and a penumbral lunar eclipse on Aug 17. NASA's catalogue lists the February 6 eclipse as annular and the August 2 eclipse as total; the lunar eclipses this year are penumbral, a faint dimming of the full moon.
We treat three days either side of each eclipse as Avoid, and take five points off anything within ten days. That is a cautious reading. Some astrologers use a wider window of a week or more, and some ignore penumbral lunar eclipses altogether.
The sky behind it
Eclipse times are the moments of the new or full moon (JPL DE442); NASA GSFC's catalogue gives greatest eclipse within a few minutes of these. Annular solar 2027-02-06 15:56 UTC, 17°38′ Aquarius; Penumbral lunar 2027-02-20 23:12 UTC, 1°59′ Virgo; Penumbral lunar 2027-07-18 16:02 UTC, 25°58′ Capricorn; Total solar 2027-08-02 10:05 UTC, 9°55′ Leo; Penumbral lunar 2027-08-17 07:13 UTC, 24°04′ Aquarius.
The dates everyone wants
7/7/27, Valentine's Day and the other pretty-number dates

Try this today
- Put your pretty date in the checker with the real ceremony time. The hour can change the void-of-course answer.
Every year has its pretty dates, the ones that look good engraved on a ring. 2027's are mostly in the second half of the year, and the sky is surprisingly kind to a few of them.
7/7/27, 11/11, 12/12 all rate Good. 7/7/27 is a Wednesday with a young Moon in Virgo heading for Venus, as good as it gets for symbolism-lovers.
Valentine's Day 2027 is a Sunday, and it falls inside the February Mercury retrograde, so it rates Avoid. 10/10 sits in the October retrograde. New Year's Day and New Year's Eve both rate Fair.
If your heart is set on one of the Avoid dates, here is the honest version: plenty of couples marry on them, and astrology here is one consideration among many. You can also keep the date for the party and sign the legal paperwork on a stronger day nearby.

How does an astrology wedding date calculator work?
It checks the sky at the moment you choose against traditional electional rules: Mercury and Venus direct, a waxing Moon, the Moon not void of course, and no eclipse nearby. Ours runs those checks for your exact date, ceremony time and time zone, and then shows the day's full score.
Is it bad luck to get married during Mercury retrograde?
Nobody has shown that it is. Electional astrology avoids Mercury retrograde because Mercury governs agreements and a retrograde is read as a time for revisiting rather than starting. Plenty of couples marry in one. If your date falls in a retrograde, some sign the legal paperwork on a different day.
