Try this today
- Book a shape cut for December 18 or 19, the Virgo weekend.
- Bold colour for New Year's Eve? December 30 is a waxing Aquarius day.
- Christmas break treatment: December 25 and 26 are Sagittarius days.
The calendar ends on a generous note. The Moon enters Leo on Thursday, December 16 and stays there through Friday, December 17, then moves into Virgo from Saturday, December 18 to Monday, December 20. Five days in a row, all waning, all hair days.
In the folk scheme that ties November 2026 for the longest shape window on this calendar: the days for a cut you want to hold through the holidays and into January. The Virgo weekend, December 18 and 19, is the obvious booking. The last quarter Moon arrives on December 20 at 28° Virgo, so the run ends right on the quarter.
After that the calendar quiets down. Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25, has the Moon in Sagittarius and almost dark, a treatment day: fine for a mask, not a classic cutting day.
Then comes the bit for the party crowd. The new Moon falls on December 27 in Capricorn, and the waxing Moon enters Aquarius late on December 29 (UTC). December 30 and 31 are waxing Aquarius days, the tradition's top colour days. If you are planning a bold New Year's Eve colour, the Moon calendar would say do it on the 30th.
The Moon this month
A Gemini Cold Moon to close the year
The full Moon arrives on December 13 at 21° Gemini, the Cold Moon in the Farmers' Almanac naming. The Moon is in Gemini on December 12 and 13, both waxing at noon UTC, so those are colour days too, a fortnight before the New Year's pair.
Skip days: Pisces from December 5 to 7, Cancer on December 14 and 15 (right before the hair-day run), and Scorpio on December 23 and 24. Christmas Eve is a skip day, as it was in 2026.
This is the last month of this calendar. The Moon keeps going, of course: Leo and Virgo come around every 27 to 28 days, and the pattern of waxing and waning hair days keeps drifting through the year.
