A Virgo Friday and Saturday for the season of events
Try this today
- Event coming up? Book a tidy trim on Friday, May 14 or Saturday, May 15.
- Want more volume for photos? May 12 or 13, the Leo days, are the folk pick.
- Changing your colour for summer? May 8 and 9 put the waxing Moon in Gemini.
May is graduation, wedding and prom season, and the Moon calendar is kind to it. The Moon enters Leo on Wednesday, May 12 at about two-fifths lit and growing, and the first quarter Moon arrives on May 13 while it is still in Leo. Then it moves into Virgo for Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15.
All four are growth days. For a tidy trim before an event, the Virgo pair is the tradition's favourite: Virgo is the sign the Moon-calendar books link with neatness and a cut that holds its line, and the waxing Moon keeps it a growth-friendly cut. If you are trying to grow your hair for a summer wedding, May 15 is a Saturday growth day with a shape bonus.
The Leo days, May 12 and 13, are better if you want more volume. A midweek appointment is also usually easier to get in May than a weekend one.
There are no waning hair days this month. The fallback for a short cut is the waning Capricorn days, May 23 and 24.
The Moon this month
A Taurus new Moon and a Scorpio full Moon
The new Moon falls on May 6 at 15° Taurus, a neutral earth sign in the tradition. The Moon moves into Gemini on May 7 and stays there through the 9th, so the first three waxing days after the new Moon are air-sign colour days. May 8 and 9 make a Saturday and Sunday colour weekend.
The full Moon is on May 20 at 29° Scorpio, the last degree of that sign. The Farmers' Almanac calls it the Flower Moon. The Moon spends May 18 to 20 in Scorpio, so those are skip days, and Pisces returns on May 28 and 29. With Pisces on May 1 and 2 and Cancer on May 10 and 11, May has nine skip days in all.
