13 voids, 17% void

Soft May evenings, and voids that range from half an hour to more than a day.

May begins mid-void. On the evening of May 1 (UTC), the Moon sextiles Mercury in Pisces and then floats for more than a day before reaching Aries. If you wanted a May Day kickoff, the cleaner moment is after that ingress.

From there the month tightens up. May has thirteen voids and far fewer void hours than March, and it contains one of the tiniest windows of spring: a Leo void of barely half an hour. Blink and it is over. You do not need to plan around something like that unless you are timing a signature to the minute.

The New Moon falls in Taurus, a steady, sensual sign for planting things you want to grow slowly, whether that is a savings habit or actual tomatoes. The Full Moon lands in Scorpio, and since it is outside the long windows, it is a good night for honest conversations or for letting something go.

13 windows, 127 h. 6th of 12 by hours; 9% under a 2027 month's mean; one past 24 h, 1 under 60 min. Weekend starts (UTC): 5. Weekday 13:00 to 22:00 UTC starts: 3.

1 of 2 May lunations (the New Moon at 15°43′ Taurus on Thu May 6 · 10:58 UTC, the Full Moon at 29°14′ Scorpio on Thu May 20 · 10:59 UTC) lands inside a void.

The sky behind it

May last aspects: Mars 4, Saturn 3, Mercury 2, Venus 2, Sun 2. Method.

5 planets close voids

Half an hour in Leo

May holds one of the shortest voids of spring. On May 13 the Moon conjoins Mars in Leo at 17:31 UTC and enters Virgo 34 minutes later. That is one of four May voids under four hours: the others fall in Gemini on the 9th, Scorpio on the 20th and Aquarius on the 27th.

The Scorpio one is worth a closer look. The Full Moon on May 20 at 29°14′ Scorpio is the Moon's opposition to the Sun, and it is also the Moon's last aspect in Scorpio. So the void starts at 10:59 UTC, the same minute as the Full Moon, and ends less than an hour and a half later at the Sagittarius ingress.

Saturn closes three May voids, an opposition from Libra and then a trine and a square from Sagittarius and Capricorn on the 22nd and 24th. Four voids begin on a Saturday (UTC), more than any other weekday this month.

Try this today

  • Start the garden or the savings plan near the Taurus New Moon.
  • Skip a May 1 launch if it lands inside the Pisces void.
  • Look up the half-hour Leo void just for fun: that is how small they can get.

Wait out the opening Pisces void, then use the Taurus New Moon as your launch pad. The rest of May is short voids and lots of usable time.

Most of May is easy to schedule around, because eleven of thirteen voids last under fourteen hours. The two long ones bracket the month in Pisces: the first runs from the evening of May 1 to 01:42 UTC on the 3rd, and the last from 11:03 UTC on May 29 to 10:39 UTC on the 30th. Memorial Day weekend in the US sits right on that second window, so book travel details before it starts.

Quick read

Worth knowing

May's two long voids are bookends, both in Pisces: the very first one, at about 29 hours, and a 24-hour stretch near the end of the month. Everything in between is short.
