The 8th house
The Idle place
The 8th house doesn't make eye contact with the Ascendant. In the Hellenistic diagram it is one of the places 'averse' to the rising sign, and the Greeks called it the Idle place, a house where planets were thought to work less effectively for the native.
Its classical topics are death, inheritance, and the money of others, particularly a partner's: loans, debts, taxes, shared accounts. Modern astrologers add intimacy, psychology and transformation.
The age-31 version comes right after the partnership-heavy 7th house year, which makes sense. You've joined lives with people; now you deal with what's shared. It can feel heavy. It can also be the year you finally sort the joint account, pay off the card, or go to therapy and actually like it.
