At a glance
Your career is not missing. Reputation and public role come from the sign overhead, its ruler and the Midheaven degree, and success needs no planet parked at the top.

What it means
Ambition without a planet on the podium

Try this today
- Read the sign on your 10th as a job ad. Which parts feel true?
- Find your 10th-house ruler's house: it often names the field or route into your career.
The 10th house sits at the top of the chart, the part of the sky overhead at birth. It is the most public house: career, reputation, status, the line on your LinkedIn and the thing people say about you when you leave the room.
An empty 10th worries career-minded people, and it should not. Founders, executives and artists have empty 10th houses. What it tends to describe is that your work is not your whole identity, and your public image is built rather than handed to you. You may change direction more than once, and you may care more about the work than the title.
The sign on the 10th is your career style. Capricorn there (Aries rising) climbs the ladder properly. Aquarius there (Taurus rising) wants to work in something that feels like the future. Leo there (Scorpio rising) wants credit, and deserves it.
The ruler lookup
The 10th-house ruler is your career compass

10th-house ruler in the 3rd: writing, media, teaching, sales. In the 6th: healthcare, service, the reliable expert. In the 5th: creative work or work with young people. In the 9th: academia, law, travel, publishing. In the 1st: you are the brand.
This is the most practical empty-house reading of all, and the finder gives it to you in one line.
In real life
Midheaven vs 10th house

Try this today
- Compare your chart in whole-sign and Placidus houses.
- Write down what you want to be known for in five years.
In whole-sign houses, the Midheaven (the exact degree overhead) usually falls in the 9th, 10th or 11th sign (further out at high latitudes). So you can have an empty whole-sign 10th with the Midheaven somewhere else, or the opposite in Placidus. Both readings are useful. The Midheaven's sign is your public aim; the whole-sign 10th is the area of life that carries it.
If your Placidus and whole-sign charts disagree about whether the 10th is empty, that is normal, not an error.

Quick answers
Does an empty 10th house mean no career?
No. Career is read from the sign on the 10th, its ruler and the Midheaven. Many successful people have empty 10th houses.
Is the Midheaven always in the 10th house?
In Placidus houses, yes, it is the 10th cusp. In whole-sign houses it usually falls in the 9th, 10th or 11th sign, and occasionally further out at high latitudes.
Empty 10th house and fame: what does it say?
Nothing on its own. Visibility in a chart comes from many factors, and fame depends on far more than a birth chart.
