Aquarius and Capricorn: the answer

Capricorn (22 December to 19 January in most years) is cardinal Earth. Aquarius (20 January to 18 February) is fixed Air. As neighbouring signs, your Suns are 30 degrees apart, a semisextile, which astrologers treat as a minor contact: not much natural ease, not much open clash.

What the element labels hide is the ruler. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. So is Aquarius, in the traditional system. Modern astrologers gave Aquarius to Uranus after William Herschel found the planet in 1781, and most now list both, with Saturn as the traditional ruler and Uranus as the modern one. Both ruled by Saturn: what that means

In the traditional scheme Saturn rules the two signs opposite the Sun's and Moon's own signs, Leo and Cancer. Capricorn is Saturn's night house and Aquarius its day house. Saturn is the planet of time, limits, structure and distance. People with strong Saturn tend to keep promises, distrust gushing, and take a long view.

Two Saturn-ruled signs share that temperament. Neither of you needs constant reassurance. Both of you respect a commitment once it is made. Both are comfortable with silence and with some emotional distance.
