14 voids, 25% void

Big summer skies: August holds the single longest void of 2027.

August is the dramatic month. It opens with the New Moon in Leo, which is also the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027, and closes with a second New Moon in Virgo. In between sits the longest void-of-course Moon of the whole year.

That window opens the day after the Full Moon in Aquarius. Once in Pisces, the Moon opposes Jupiter, and then it makes no further Ptolemaic contact with any classical planet for about two days, until it enters Aries. If you had something big planned for the middle of the month, this is the stretch to check.

The rest of August is lively. The eclipse New Moon is a classic "don't force it, notice what starts" moment in astrological tradition, and the Virgo New Moon at the end of the month suits a practical fresh start for the autumn term. One Aries void, just after the long one, lasts only about an hour.

5 planets close voids

Two giants and a lot of small change

August is a month of extremes. Six of its fourteen voids run under four hours, yet two of them pass forty-six hours. The Virgo void from August 3 to 5 begins just after the eclipse New Moon of August 2, with the Moon's only aspect in Virgo, a conjunction with Jupiter. The Pisces void from August 18 to 20 is the longest of the whole year, close to fifty hours, after an opposition to Jupiter.

Saturn closes seven August voids, tying September for the most Saturn endings of the year. All seven are short: the Moon trines, opposes, squares or sextiles Saturn and reaches the next sign within about four and a half hours.

A third long window follows them: the Taurus void from August 23 to 24, about 33 hours, after a trine to Mercury. With four windows over a day and the year's eclipse, August is the month to read the table before booking anything important. Sundays and Tuesdays (UTC) start four voids each.

Try this today

  • Keep the two-day Pisces void for a beach day or a reading binge.
  • Note the eclipse date and read our eclipse page before planning around it.
  • Use the Virgo New Moon to set up autumn routines.

Circle the long Pisces-to-Aries void in the middle of the month and keep it for rest, travel days or creative wandering. Time new starts near the Virgo New Moon instead, outside its nearest void.

Hold off on anything you need to start strong between August 3 and 5, and again between August 18 and 20. The first stretch opens on the evening of August 3, the day after the eclipse, and runs nearly two days in Virgo. The second, in Pisces, is the longest void of the year, almost fifty hours. Between them, the Scorpio void from August 9 to 10 runs more than a day too, so mid-August has few clean windows.
