Libra rising? Scorpio? The birth certificate in the Cowboy Carter art book says 9:47 PM, and that puts Aries on the horizon at 29 degrees.

For years Beyoncé's chart was a mess of good stories. IMDb said 10 AM, with no source. An astrology duo who read for her in 2003 said Libra rising, from a call to her mother that placed the birth "sometime in the 11am hour." Her mother's book Matriarch says 9:04 in the evening, which Astro-Databank notes might be a slip, since 9/04 is also her birthday.
Then a birth certificate appeared in print, in the Cowboy Carter art book, and the archive updated the entry in April 2025 to 9:47 PM with the top rating, AA.
At 9:47 PM in Houston on September 4, 1981, the ascendant was at 29°01′ Aries, the last degree of the sign. Three minutes later it would have been Taurus. On a certified time, Aries it is.

Now the part that explains all those "Libra rising" guesses: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are all in Libra, a five-planet stellium in the seventh house of partnerships and collaborations. Anyone who met her and felt a Libra glow was not imagining it; they just pinned it on the wrong point.
Jupiter and Saturn were together in Libra across 1980 and 1981, and Pluto was there for years, so lots of people born then share three of the five. What is personal is Mercury and Venus joining them. Libra is the sign of balance, beauty and the duet. Destiny's Child was a group act; that is the kind of fact astrologers like to set next to a seventh-house stellium.
