Taylor Swift's birth chart, minus the guesswork
Three birth times are floating around the internet. We computed her chart for the whole of December 13, 1989 and kept only what every one of them agrees on: a Sagittarius Sun, a Cancer Moon, Venus in Aquarius, and a sky stacked with Capricorn.

The birth time
Why nobody can tell you Taylor Swift's rising sign

Try this today
- Next time you see a celebrity chart, look up the Rodden rating on Astro-Databank before you read the houses. AA and A are solid; C, DD and X are not.
- If your own birth time is a family memory rather than a certificate, treat your rising sign the same way. Your Sun, Venus and Mars still stand.
Find possible rising signs without a birth timeWhy is my rising sign different on every app?
You have probably seen it: a TikTok naming her rising sign, a comment section insisting on a different one, someone else pointing to a birth time with a 13 hidden in it. Everyone sounds sure. Here is what the record actually says.
The date and place are solid. A birth notice in the Reading Eagle on 15 December 1989 confirms she was born at Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pennsylvania, on December 13, 1989 (Astro-Databank). The notice gives no time.
The time is not. Astro-Databank, the reference archive astrologers use to grade birth data, lists 8:36 AM but rates it DD, "Dirty Data," its label for conflicting or unverified times (Rodden Ratings). Its notes explain why:
- 8:36 AM comes from a post on a fan page, repeated in the book Inside Taylor Nation.
- 5:17 AM comes from a 2015 biography with no sources. Astro-Databank traces it to a fan's list of facts about themselves ("5+1+7=13"), later mistaken for Swift's own words.
- 8:46 PM comes from a French website that said she tweeted it. The tweet could not be found, and Astro-Databank calls it likely fake.
The rising sign moves through all twelve signs in a day, roughly one every two hours, so a gap of hours changes everything. We checked: each of the three times puts a different sign on the eastern horizon. That is why this page, following our rule for any chart rated below A, prints no rising sign and no houses.
The sky behind it
Method: positions computed for every minute from 00:00 to 24:00 EST (UTC-5) on December 13, 1989, at Astro-Databank's coordinates (40n20, 75w57), from NASA JPL's DE442 ephemeris, tropical zodiac. As a check, at 8:36 AM we get the Sun at 21°31′ Sagittarius and the Moon at 3°30′ Cancer, the same values Astro-Databank prints.
The fixed placements
A Sagittarius Sun with Mars in Scorpio

Try this today
- Born between late November and late December? Check your Sun degree against hers (21°-22° Sagittarius) in the tool below.
- If your Mars is in Scorpio too, notice how you handle being underestimated. Astrologers would say that is where the placement shows.
Picture a sold-out stadium, three hours in, and somebody on stage still telling stories between songs. That is the mood astrologers hang on Sagittarius: the storyteller, the traveller, the one who says the honest thing out loud.
Her Sun sat at 21°10′ to 22°11′ Sagittarius across the whole birth day, deep in the middle of the sign. No cusp drama, no "am I a Capricorn?" question. Born between late November and late December? You share the sign. Born around December 12 to 14 in any year, you probably share the degree too.
Mars in Scorpio (26°32′ to 27°14′ Scorpio) is the other piece that never moves with the clock. In the tradition, Mars is drive and the way you fight, and Scorpio is the sign of intensity, privacy and very long memory. Read the two together and you get a familiar pairing: an open, chatty Sagittarius surface over a Scorpio engine that runs deep and quiet.
Pluto is in Scorpio too, at 16°29′ to 16°31′ Scorpio, though Pluto spends more than a decade in a sign, so it is shared by her whole generation rather than personal to her.
The stellium
4 planets in Capricorn: the stellium in her chart

Try this today
- Born in 1988-1991? Run your date below. You will probably share at least two of these Capricorn planets with her.
- Read up on stelliums, then check whether your own chart has one.
Here is the bit people point to when they call her "secretly a Capricorn." Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune were all in Capricorn on December 13, 1989, and none of them changed sign during the day.
Capricorn is the sign of the long game: structure, ambition, owning your work. A cluster of three or more planets in one sign is called a stellium, and astrologers read it as a theme the whole chart keeps coming back to. Mercury, the planet of words and thinking, is part of this one, at 8°19′ to 9°46′ Capricorn.
There is a catch worth knowing. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune were all in Capricorn for much of 1989 and 1990, the year of the famous Saturn-Neptune conjunction (just 2.1° apart on her birthday). Lots of people born around then share those three. What makes her version personal is Mercury joining them, 2.3° from Neptune. In the tradition, Mercury-Neptune is the dreamer's pen: the writer who can make a feeling sound like a place.
Mercury also sits almost exactly opposite Jupiter (1.4° orb), the planet of growth and big gestures. Astrologers read that axis as a talker with a lot to say and a wide audience to say it to. It is a reading, not a fact about her; the angle itself is the measurable part.
The sky behind it
Aspects among the time-independent planets that stay in orb all day (orb at noon EST): Mercury opposition Jupiter 1.4°; Saturn conjunction Neptune 2.1°; Mercury conjunction Neptune 2.3°; Jupiter opposition Uranus 3.0°; Saturn sextile Pluto 3.0°; Jupiter opposition Neptune 3.7°; Mercury conjunction Uranus 4.4°; Mercury conjunction Saturn 4.4°; Jupiter opposition Saturn 5.8°; Uranus conjunction Neptune 6.7°.
The Moon
A Cancer Moon, born a day after the full moon

Try this today
- Use the slider below to watch the Moon cross the sign line at 2:48 AM.
- If your birthday also had two Moon signs, the moon sign calculator settles it once you add a time.
The Moon is the one body that can trip up a no-time chart. It moves about 13 degrees a day, so a birthday often has two Moon signs. Hers did: the Moon spent the first hours of December 13 in Gemini and slipped into Cancer at 2:48 AM EST local time.
That turns out to settle it. All three reported times (5:17 AM, 8:36 AM and 8:46 PM) fall after 2:48 AM EST, so whichever one is right, the Moon is in Cancer: from 1°30′ Cancer at the earliest to 10°48′ Cancer at the latest. Only an unreported time in the small hours would change it.
In the tradition, a Cancer Moon is the homebody heart: loyal, nostalgic, protective of its people, and very good at turning a memory into a feeling. Jupiter was in Cancer too, at 7°43′ to 7°35′ Cancer and retrograde, which astrologers read as growth that comes from looking back.
She was also born just after a full moon. The Moon was full at 20°38′ Gemini on Dec 12, 1989, about 21 hours before the 8:36 AM time, and was still 99% lit at noon on her birthday, a waning gibbous Moon.
The sky behind it
Moon on December 13, 1989 (EST): 28°17′ Gemini at 00:00, Cancer ingress at 2:48 AM EST (07:48 UTC), 12°43′ Cancer at 24:00, a span of 14.4°. Full moon 1989-12-12 16:29 UTC at 20°38′ Gemini, which agrees with NASA's table (Dec 12, 16:30 UT).
Love and friendship
Venus in Aquarius: friends first, on her own terms

Try this today
- Check your Venus sign in the tool below. A Venus in Aquarius, Gemini or Libra harmonizes with hers by element.
- Then look at your Venus with someone you actually love, not a celebrity. That is where synastry gets interesting.
Venus, the planet of love, taste and friendship, is one of the easy ones in her chart: Aquarius, 1°43′ to 2°15′ Aquarius, the whole day long.
In the tradition, Venus in Aquarius likes friendship as the base of everything, admires a mind before a face, and needs room to stay itself inside a relationship. Astrologers like to point out that it sits just past the edge of Capricorn, right next door to that crowded stellium.
Her lunar North Node is in Aquarius as well (mean node, 19°27′ to 19°24′ Aquarius). The nodes are not planets; they mark where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path. Astrologers read the North Node as a direction of growth, and having it in the same sign as Venus doubles the Aquarius theme: community, the crowd, the people who show up for you.
None of this is a claim about her private life, which is hers. It is how the tradition reads two points on a chart, the same way it would read yours.
Play with it
Her birthday, minute by minute, and your chart next to hers
First, drag through December 13, 1989 and watch the Moon cross from Gemini into Cancer while the reported times click past. Then put in your own birth date: you will see which of her placements you share and any close contacts between your planets and hers. No birth time needed for either.
1. Slide through her birthday
Moon 3°30′ Cancer
Sun 21°32′ Sagittarius. From 2:48 AM EST on, the Moon is in Cancer.
8:36 AM is the time Astro-Databank lists, from a fan-page post, rated DD. It gives a Cancer Moon, like the other reported times. It also puts a different sign on the eastern horizon from the other two, which is why no rising sign is printed here.
2. Your chart next to hers
No birth time needed. Like her chart on this page, this uses positions at noon (UTC) and leaves out your rising sign and houses.

Quick answers
What is Taylor Swift's birth chart?
Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in West Reading, Pennsylvania. Whatever her birth time, she has the Sun in Sagittarius (21°-22°), Mercury in Capricorn, Venus in Aquarius, Mars in Scorpio, Jupiter in Cancer (retrograde), and Saturn, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn. Her Moon is in Cancer for any time after 2:48 AM EST.
What is Taylor Swift's rising sign?
Nobody can say for sure. Astro-Databank rates her birth data DD, meaning conflicting or unverified times. Three times circulate (8:36 AM, 5:17 AM and 8:46 PM), and each one puts a different sign on the horizon. Until a time from a birth record or from Swift herself appears, any confident "Taylor Swift rising sign" is a guess.
What is Taylor Swift's moon sign?
Almost certainly Cancer. The Moon moved from Gemini into Cancer at 2:48 AM EST on December 13, 1989 (Reading, Pennsylvania time), and every reported birth time is later than that. At 8:36 AM it sat at 3°30′ Cancer. Only a birth before 2:48 AM EST would give a Gemini Moon.
What is Taylor Swift's Venus sign?
Venus was in Aquarius all day, between 1°43′ and 2°15′ Aquarius. It does not depend on the birth time.
What is Taylor Swift's big three?
Two of the three are known: Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Cancer. The third, the rising sign, needs an exact birth time, and hers is unverified (Astro-Databank rating DD).
What time was Taylor Swift born?
There is no verified time. The birth notice in the Reading Eagle (15 December 1989) confirms the date and Reading Hospital, but gives no time. Astro-Databank lists 8:36 AM from a fan-page post; 5:17 AM comes from a 2015 biography that Astro-Databank traces to a fan's list of facts about themselves; 8:46 PM came from a French website citing a tweet that could not be found.
Is Taylor Swift a Sagittarius?
Yes. Her Sun was at 21°10′ to 22°11′ Sagittarius on December 13, 1989, well inside Sagittarius. Her Mercury, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are in Capricorn, which is why some people describe her chart as "very Capricorn."
When was Taylor Swift's Saturn return, and what is her sky in 2026?
Saturn returned to its birth position, 13°29′ Capricorn, on Jan 18, 2019, when she was 29. In 2026 Saturn is in Aries and squares her Capricorn planets one by one; it squares her own Saturn from Jun 4 to Jul 10, 2026, and again from Aug 12 to Sep 20, 2026.
