The full moon
A full moon that dims, just a little

Two weeks after the February solar eclipse, the Moon swings to the opposite side of Earth and grazes our shadow. This full moon is a penumbral lunar eclipse, listed in NASA's eclipse catalogue for February 20, 2027.
A penumbral eclipse is the subtle kind. The Moon passes only through the outer, fuzzy part of Earth's shadow, so it does not turn red or go dark. At most it looks a little dusky on one edge. If you were not told, you might never know. It is visible wherever the Moon is up during the eclipse, which includes much of the Americas, Europe and Africa according to NASA's map.
The full moon is in Virgo, the sign astrologers associate with health, routines, work and the satisfying click of things being in order. The Sun sits opposite in Pisces, the sign of dreams and dissolving edges. Virgo-Pisces full moons are often read as the tension between fixing everything and letting it be.
And Mars, which is retrograde in Virgo, sits almost on top of the Moon. Astrologers read a Mars-Moon conjunction as restless energy and short fuses. Under an eclipse, the traditional advice is to channel it into a physical task rather than an argument.

Virgo eclipse: fix one thing well

Try this today
- Throw out three things from the bathroom cabinet that expired.
- Go for a walk instead of sending that heated reply.
- Write down one routine you are ending, and one you are keeping.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which sits retrograde in late Aquarius near the Sun at this full moon, opposite the Moon. Mercury retrograde plus an eclipse plus retrograde Mars in Virgo: astrologers would call this a heavy review cluster. Plans may need a second draft.
The practical Virgo response is to focus on the body and the daily routine. Sleep, food, the desk, the inbox, the tax folder. Lunar eclipses are traditionally read as endings, so this is a good time to drop a habit or a task that no longer serves you.
Uranus in Gemini squares the lunation, adding a dash of the unexpected. Leave some room in your week.
Uranus and the Moon
Uranus is the loudest voice at this full moon

3 planets touch 2°06′ Virgo:
- Uranus square the Moon (1°45′ Gemini, orb 0.3°): surprise, freedom and sudden change. The aspect adds friction and pressure to act.
- Mars conjunct the Moon (0°15′ Virgo, orb 1.8°): drive, heat and conflict. The aspect fuses its theme straight into the lunation.
- Mercury opposite the Moon (27°14′ Aquarius, orb 4.9°): words, plans and messages. The aspect pulls from the other side of the sky, so its theme shows up through other people.
Mercury and Mars and Jupiter are all in reverse on February 20.

The name
Why it is called the Snow Moon

The Farmers' Almanac and NASA call February's full moon the Snow Moon. The Almanac ties the name to the heavy snowfalls typical of February in much of North America. It also lists the Hunger Moon, a name linked with the hard late-winter weeks when food was scarce.
The names come from a mix of Native American, colonial and European sources, and the Almanac notes that individual nations had their own names. NASA uses the Maine Farmers' Almanac set.
In the Southern Hemisphere it is late summer. Southern calendars that swap names by six months would borrow August's name instead.
