The calendar

Seven months of Moon, to the minute

Two lunations a month: one to begin, one to finish.NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University

Every month the Moon does the same two things. It slips between the Earth and the Sun and goes dark, a new moon. Two weeks later it swings to the far side and comes up round and bright at sunset, a full moon. Astrologers call each of those moments a lunation, and they have used them to time beginnings and endings for a very long time.

This page lists all 14 lunations from November 9, 2026 to May 20, 2027. Each one has its own page with the exact time in several cities, the zodiac degree, every planet aspecting it, the folk name if it has one, and a finder that shows which house of your chart it lands in.

A few things worth knowing up front. The run starts with a new moon in Scorpio while Mercury and Venus are both retrograde. It passes two supermoons back to back, Full Moon December 2026, Full Moon January 2027. It crosses an eclipse season in February 2027, New Moon February 2027, Full Moon February 2027. And it ends with two full moons in a row in Scorpio, one at the first degree and one at the last.

Every date here is computed with the JPL DE442 ephemeris, not copied from another site. Times are in UTC with local conversions on each page.

Try this today

  • On the next full moon, go outside about 15 minutes after sunset and watch it rise in the east. It looks biggest near the horizon, which is an optical illusion, not distance.
  • Learn the name of this month's full moon in a language your family speaks.

The full moon names you see everywhere come mostly from the Farmers' Almanac, which says it collected them from Native American, colonial American and European sources. NASA uses the same set, from the Maine Farmers' Almanac, in its monthly skywatching notes. Both are clear that different nations used different names, and that the list is a popular convention.

We assign each name by the month the full moon falls in on US Eastern time, the way the Almanac does. For this run: Beaver Moon (Gemini, November 24), Cold Moon (Cancer, December 24), Wolf Moon (Leo, January 22), Snow Moon (Virgo, February 20), Worm Moon (Libra, March 22), Pink Moon (Scorpio, April 20), Flower Moon (Scorpio, May 20).

New moons have no folk names. You cannot see a new moon, so nobody named one.

Below the equator the seasons flip, so a Beaver Moon in late spring makes no sense. Some Southern Hemisphere moon calendars use the name from six months away instead. That is a modern convention too, and nothing more.

Eclipse season

February 2027: two eclipses in two weeks

An eclipse is just a new or full moon that lines up exactly with the Moon's nodes.Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr, Atlas Novus Coelestis, 1742

Most months the Moon passes a little above or below the Sun's path, so nothing dramatic happens. Twice a year, the timing lines up with the Moon's nodes and the new and full moons become eclipses.

In this run that happens in February 2027. The new moon in Aquarius is an annular solar eclipse: NASA's catalogue puts the ring of fire on a narrow path across the far south. Two weeks later the full moon in Virgo is a penumbral lunar eclipse, a faint dimming most people will not notice.

Astrologers treat eclipses as the high-stakes lunations, starts and endings that seem to arrive on their own schedule and unfold over months. We give you the computed facts, the NASA cross-check and the traditional reading, and leave the meaning to you.

Closest and farthest

Two supermoons, one micro new moon

Supermoon is not an astronomy term. So we tell you exactly which rule we used.Photo: Thom Bradley / Burst

The Moon's orbit is an ellipse, so its distance changes through the month. "Supermoon" has no official definition. We use a plain one: the Moon closer than 360,000 km at the exact full or new moon.

By that rule this run has 2 supermoons: the Cold Moon (356,738 km) and the Wolf Moon (357,644 km). The closest lunation of all is the full moon december 2026. The November Beaver Moon is 360,765 km, just outside our line, which is why some sites call it a supermoon and others do not.

At the other end, the farthest is the new moon january 2027 at 406,524 km. You cannot see a new moon, so it makes no visible difference, but it is a fun fact for the group chat.

The lunations with no planet in the way

At 3 of the 14 lunations in this run, no planet from Mercury to Pluto aspects the Moon within our orbs: New Moon December 2026, New Moon March 2027, Full Moon April 2027. Astrologers read an unaspected lunation as its signs speaking plainly.

Quick answers

When is the full moon in November 2026?

The November 2026 full moon, the Beaver Moon, is exact on November 24, 2026, 14:53 UTC, which is Tue Nov 24, 9:53 AM EST in New York. It is in Gemini at 2°20′ Gemini.

What sign is the full moon in November 2026?

Gemini, at 2°20′ Gemini in the tropical zodiac, opposite the Sun at 2°20′ Sagittarius. Uranus sits right beside the Moon.

When is the Cold Moon 2026?

December's Cold Moon is exact on December 24, 2026, 01:28 UTC, which is Wed Dec 23, 8:28 PM EST in New York, so it is the 23rd in the Americas and the 24th in Europe and Asia. It is in Cancer at 2°14′ Cancer and is a supermoon by our 360,000 km rule.

What does the Cold Moon in December 2026 mean?

In astrology, a full moon in Cancer is read as a peak for home, family and feelings, with the Capricorn Sun opposite pulling toward work and duty. Arriving in the holiday week, it is often framed as a check-in on what home really means to you.

Are there eclipses between November 2026 and May 2027?

Yes, two, both in February 2027: annular solar eclipse on February 6, 2027 in Aquarius, and a penumbral lunar eclipse on February 20, 2027 in Virgo. Types are from the NASA GSFC catalogue.

Why do some sites give a different date for the full moon?

Because the exact moment is one instant worldwide, but the calendar date depends on your time zone. A full moon late in the evening in New York is already the next day in London. Each lunation page lists several cities.

What is a lunation in astrology?

A lunation is a new moon or a full moon. Astrologers use new moons for setting intentions and starting things, and full moons for finishing, releasing and noticing what has come to light. It is a reflective tradition, not a prediction.
