If Aries season is the alarm clock, Pisces season is the snooze button you are allowed to hit. It is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac, the end of the cycle before the Sun crosses the equinox and starts again at 0 degrees Aries.
Pisces is the mutable water sign, ruled in tradition by Jupiter and in modern astrology also by Neptune. Astrologers link it to dreams, empathy, art, music, spirituality and the kind of tiredness that is really just a need to feel something. The two fish swim in opposite directions, tied together, which is a pretty accurate picture of wanting two things at once.

Two fish tied with a cord
Ovid tells the story in his calendar poem, the Fasti. Fleeing the monster Typhon along the Euphrates, Venus and her son Cupid dived into the river and became fish. In the sky the two swim in different directions, joined by a long ribbon of faint stars. The knot where the ribbon meets is marked by Alrescha, whose Arabic name simply means the cord.
It is a dim constellation. The western fish is best found as the Circlet, a small ring of stars south of the Great Square of Pegasus. What Pisces lacks in brightness it makes up in importance. Because of precession, the point where the Sun crosses the celestial equator each March, the very start of the tropical zodiac, has drifted out of the stars of Aries and now sits in Pisces. That drift is the reason people talk about an Age of Pisces giving way to an Age of Aquarius.
This season ends on the March equinox. In much of the world it overlaps late winter fasting seasons and spring cleaning, and in Britain the clocks jump forward on the last Sunday of March, about a week after it closes.

While you are there, think back over the last twelve signs, roughly the last year. What do you want to keep? What would you happily let wash off? You do not need to fix anything. The point of the twelfth sign is to finish, so Aries can start clean.
