How it works

Your houses are the map. The eclipse is the pin.

  • Fill in the calculator below with your real birth time if you have it. A birth certificate or a parent's memory both work.
  • Then compare with a friend's result. It is a surprisingly good conversation starter.

Every eclipse happens at one zodiac degree for the whole planet. The Aug 2 total eclipse is at 9°55′ Leo whether you are in Cairo or Calgary. What changes from person to person is which house that degree falls in, and the house is what makes it personal.

Your houses start at your rising sign, the sign coming up over the eastern horizon when you were born. That becomes house 1. The next sign is house 2, and so on round the wheel. So the same Leo eclipse is a 1st-house eclipse for Leo rising, a 7th-house eclipse for Aquarius rising, and a 10th-house eclipse for Scorpio rising.

That is why your friend's "big eclipse year" can feel nothing like yours. Same sky. Different floor plan.

  • Pick the one house that shows up twice in your table. That is your 2027 eclipse theme.
  • Write one sentence for it in the form: In 2027 I want to change how I handle ____.

When you see your table, look at the solar rows first. In tradition, a solar eclipse is a supercharged new moon: a fresh start in the house it lands in. In 2027 those are the Feb 6 annular in Aquarius and the Aug 2 total in Leo. With Leo rising, that is your 7th house in February and your 1st in August: a partner chapter, then a self chapter.

The lunar rows are full moons near the nodes. They are read as culminations: something in that house comes to a head, gets seen, or wraps up. All three in 2027 are penumbral, so many astrologers give them a lighter touch.

Then check the last column. An eclipse conjunct a natal planet, within a few degrees, is the most personal kind. Hitting your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is the classic "this one's about me" signal. Squares are read as friction that asks for a choice. No contact at all? Read it by house only. That is still meaningful, just gentler.

Why two columns

  • If both columns match, you have a clear answer. If not, read both house themes and see which one feels live.

There are many house systems. We show two that need nothing more than your Ascendant.

Whole sign is the oldest: your rising sign is the entire 1st house, every sign is one house. It is clean and it never puts an eclipse in an awkward half-house. Equal house starts the 1st house at your exact Ascendant degree and measures 30° per house from there.

For an eclipse at 17° of a sign, the two agree when your Ascendant sits at 17° or less of its sign. If your Ascendant degree is higher, equal house counts that eclipse one house earlier. You do not need to do that maths, the calculator does it. But if you see, say, "11th" and "10th", know that the eclipse sits close to a cusp and both houses are in play.

If you prefer Placidus, the default on most chart sites, your free birth chart shows your Placidus cusps; compare them with the eclipse degrees in the 2027 eclipse table.

The sky behind it

Natal positions are computed in your browser with astronomy-engine (geocentric, tropical, true ecliptic of date). The Ascendant uses the same formula as Shymea's chart engine. Nothing you type is stored.

Find your 2027 eclipse houses

Enter your birth date, time and place. You get the whole-sign and equal house of each 2027 eclipse and any natal planet or angle it touches. Unknown birth time is fine; you will get solar houses instead.

Quick answers

What house is the 2027 eclipse in my chart?

It depends on your rising sign. Count from it: the sign on your Ascendant is the 1st house. For example, with Taurus rising the Feb 6 eclipse in Aquarius is in your 10th house and the Aug 2 eclipse in Leo is in your 4th. The calculator above does it for exact degrees.

Do I need my birth time to find my eclipse houses?

For true houses, yes, because the Ascendant changes sign about every two hours. Without a time the calculator counts from your Sun sign (solar houses) and leaves out the Moon and Ascendant, which is a useful but rougher guide.

Which signs are most affected by the 2027 eclipses?

By tradition, signs with planets or angles near the eclipse degrees. The two solar eclipses sit at 17°38′ Aquarius and 9°55′ Leo, so anything you have around 17° of Aquarius or 9° of Leo, and around the same degree of Taurus and Scorpio (the squares), is in the spotlight. Rising signs whose 1st-7th house axis is touched: Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.

What does an eclipse in my 1st or 7th house mean?

Astrologers read the 1st and 7th as the self-and-partner axis. With Leo or Aquarius rising, 2027's main eclipses fall right on it, and the traditional reading is a year of re-deciding how you show up and who you show up with. It describes themes, not guaranteed events.

Whole sign or Placidus for eclipse houses?

Both are used. Whole sign is simple and stable: one sign, one house. Placidus and equal houses can shift an eclipse near a cusp into the next house. This calculator shows whole sign and equal house side by side; if they disagree, the eclipse is near a boundary.

How close does an eclipse have to be to a planet to matter?

There is no single rule. Many astrologers use 3° to 5° for conjunctions. We list conjunctions and oppositions within 3° and squares within 2°, a tight orb, so anything shown is a clear hit.
