Stellium in Libra: the cluster that weighs
A stellium in Libra is three or more planets in Libra, the cardinal air sign ruled by Venus. It centres the chart on fairness, partnership and weighing one claim against another. In 60,000 computed charts 10.14% have one, rising to 22.4% of 1980s births, when Saturn and Pluto were in Libra together.

What a Libra stellium is really made of
The usual description, all charm and good taste, fits a minority of the Libra stelliums that exist. In the sample 81.6% of them contain an outer planet, Pluto alone appears in 56.5%, and Saturn (44.6%) turns up far more often than Venus (26.6%), the sign's own ruler. The commonest Libra stellium is therefore about justice under pressure: contracts, settlements, who owes what to whom. Prettiness comes a long way down the list.
Libra is cardinal air. Cardinal signs start things, and air starts them with words, so the Libra way of acting is to propose. A heavy Libra chart is the person who sets up the meeting between two departments that have not spoken in a year, drafts the house-share rules before anyone has moved in, or writes the email that begins with what the other side wants. The relationship is the project. That is a form of initiative, even when it looks like politeness.
Two things a Libra stellium does not mean. It does not mean indecision as a fixed trait: the person decides slowly because they are holding both sides in view, and once a cardinal sign has decided it moves. And it does not mean avoiding conflict. Plenty of Libra-heavy people spend their working lives in disputes, as solicitors, union representatives, mediators or referees, because the sign's real concern is that a fight be fair, and peace is only one way of getting there.
Libra stellium birth years: 22.4% in the 1980s, 2.9% in the 1990s
A quick way to see the generational pattern is to photograph Libra on New Year's Day at the start of each decade and list which of the five slow planets, Jupiter to Pluto, are standing in it. 1 January 1950: Neptune, there since 1943. 1 January 1960: none. 1 January 1970: Uranus, which had settled in Libra on 24 June 1969. 1 January 1980: Pluto, in Libra since 1971 and for good since 30 July 1972. 1 January 1990 and 1 January 2000: none. The decade rates follow those snapshots closely, with the gaps filled by planets that arrived later.
The 1950s reach 11.7% because Neptune stayed until 24 December 1955, with short returns in 1956 and 1957, Saturn spent most of 1951–53 in Libra and Jupiter came through in 1956–58. Neptune is in 16.2% of Libra stelliums, nearly all of them from these years. The 1960s (5.0%) start empty and only fill up after Uranus crosses in on 28 September 1968. The 1970s (14.1%) are the one stretch with two outer planets in Libra at once: Pluto arrived on 5 October 1971, Uranus stayed until 21 November 1974, and that overlap supplies most of the 12.8% of Libra stelliums with two or more outer planets.
The 1980s are the peak, at 22.4%. Saturn joined Pluto in Libra on 21 September 1980 and Jupiter followed on 27 October 1980. All three stayed together until 27 November 1981, a thirteen-month window that produced the commonest Libra set of all, Jupiter + Saturn + Pluto (11.2% of Libra stelliums). As Jupiter left, Mars arrived, on 16 December 1981, and because of a retrograde it stayed until 3 August 1982, more than seven months. That is the second commonest set, Mars + Saturn + Pluto (9.5%). Saturn left on 29 November 1982, came back from 6 May to 24 August 1983, and Pluto moved on to Scorpio on 5 November 1983.
Then the drop. The 1990s rate is 2.9%, the lowest Libra figure in the table, because no planet slower than Jupiter entered Libra all decade and Jupiter's own visit lasted from 10 October 1992 to 10 November 1993. The 2000s pick up slightly (4.3%) with Jupiter in 2004–05 and Saturn from 21 July 2010 to 5 October 2012. A Libra stellium in a chart from late 1984 to 2003 is almost always made of personal planets plus, at most, Jupiter, and it is about the individual.
Venus rules a Libra stellium, but Saturn is its strongest planet
Venus rules Libra, so every planet in the cluster ultimately works for wherever Venus sits. When Venus is inside the cluster the loop closes and the stellium behaves like a single argument for harmony, taste and pairing. That happens in only about a quarter of cases (26.6%). The rest of the time, check Venus's sign and house first. A Libra stellium whose Venus is in the next sign along spends its diplomacy on something deeper and more private than the cluster itself suggests.
Saturn is exalted in Libra and, after Pluto, is the commonest member of all, ahead even of Mercury: 44.6% of Libra stelliums include it. That is the reverse of Leo, where Saturn is in detriment and among the rarest members. Saturn in Libra is fairness by rule: the contract honoured to the letter, the same bedtime for all three children. Often it is the planet doing the real work, and the Venus qualities are the manners it wears.
The Sun is in fall in Libra and is in 40.2% of these clusters. The self is always weighed against someone else: the person asks what you would like to do before saying what they want. Mars is in detriment (35.5%), so anger goes through procedure, as a formal complaint, a carefully worded email or a long silence, rarely a slammed door. Neither is a flaw of character; each is a planet doing its job in a sign that wants something else from it.
Opposite Libra is Aries, the sign of the self acting alone. The Aries–Libra axis is me against us, and a heavy Libra chart often has to learn the Aries lesson late: that wanting something for yourself is not an injustice to anyone.
Three invented Libra stelliums from 1974, 1981 and 1982
Take a chart born in April 1981 with Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Libra and the Sun in Aries. Every child born that month shares the three planets, so this is first a generational signature: a cohort inclined to treat relationships, marriage included, as something negotiated and written down rather than inherited. With an Aries Sun opposite, the person is pulled between their own plans and a strong sense of what is owed to others. The cluster's house decides where that tug is felt.
A different example, born in the spring of 1982 with Mars, Saturn and Pluto in Libra. Here conflict is handled by procedure. The person rarely raises their voice, keeps records, and in a dispute with a landlord produces dated photographs and a copy of the tenancy agreement. Mars in detriment and Saturn exalted in the same cluster is a combination that wins arguments slowly and holds grudges for a long time.
A third, more personal one: the Sun, Mercury and Pluto in Libra, 3.9% of Libra stelliums, which needs a birthday between about 23 September and 23 October in a year when Pluto was in Libra, so 1971 to 1983. Imagine an October 1974 birth. The mind (Mercury) and the identity (the Sun) are joined to Pluto's intensity, and the result is someone whose politeness hides a very exact sense of who has power in a room. They are often the one who notices that the friendly new manager is reorganising the team around themselves.
Libra stellium in the 5th house (Gemini rising), and with Aries or Cancer rising
The table below gives the whole-sign house a Libra stellium occupies for each of the twelve rising signs, with a link to each house page. The query people search most for this sign is the 5th house version, which belongs to Gemini rising.
With Gemini rising, Libra is the 5th house, the house of romance, children, play and creative work. Picture the Sun, Mercury and Venus there, the commonest all-personal Libra set (4.3%). Romance becomes conversation: the courtship is conducted in long messages, the first date is a debate about a film, and the attraction is to a quick mind before a face. With children the cluster teaches both sides of every argument. In creative work it collaborates by instinct, the songwriter who needs a partner in the room.
With Aries rising, Libra falls in the 7th, its natural house, and the cluster sits directly opposite the Ascendant: other people carry the Libra qualities into the person's life, often through a partner who is the diplomat of the pair. Saturn's 2026–28 passage through Aries crosses this Ascendant while opposing the Libra planets, so for Aries rising the next two years test the balance from both ends at once.
With Cancer rising, Libra is the 4th house, home and family. The home becomes a negotiated space with an unwritten treaty about whose turn it is to cook, and this person is the family's mediator, the one both sides of a divorce still ring at Christmas.

Saturn and Neptune in Aries oppose Libra; Jupiter enters Libra on 24 August 2028
Saturn has been in Aries since 14 February 2026 and stays until 13 April 2028 (JPL DE442, UTC), opposing every degree of Libra along the way. Its stations decide who gets it once and who gets it three times. It turned retrograde on 26 July 2026 at 14°45′ Aries, turns direct on 10 December 2026 at 7°56′, retrogrades again on 9 August 2027 at 27°53′ and turns direct on 24 December 2027 at 21°01′. A Libra planet between about 8° and 14°, or between 21° and 27°, is opposed three times; the rest once.
For the 1980–83 cohort, whose Libra stellium contains Saturn, this is transit Saturn opposite natal Saturn: the midpoint of the Saturn cycle. Their first return came while Saturn was in Libra between 29 October 2009 and 5 October 2012, and the second falls in its next stay, from 5 September 2039 to 11 November 2041. The opposition sits between the two and usually raises the question of which commitments made at the first return are still worth keeping.
Neptune moved into Aries on 26 January 2026 and stays until May 2038, with a final return from October 2038 to March 2039. It moves slowly, reaching only 6°09′ Aries by August 2027, so for now it opposes the first few degrees of Libra, blurring a partnership's terms rather than ending them. Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini both trine Libra from the other air signs.
Then Jupiter enters Libra on 24 August 2028 and stays until 24 September 2029, crossing each planet of the cluster in turn. For anyone born between 27 October 1980 and 27 November 1981 that is also a Jupiter return, at 47 or 48.
How a Libra stellium is counted, and what the numbers leave out
With all ten bodies counted, 10.14% of the 60,000 charts hold three or more planets in Libra and 2.98% hold four or more, a four-planet rate that only Capricorn beats. Five or more in Libra is 0.6%. Under a stricter rule that stops at Saturn the figure is 4.18%, and counting only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars it is 2.42%.
The fall from the first number to the last is larger than for most signs, because only 18.4% of Libra stelliums contain no outer planet at all. A reader born in the 1980s who finds three planets in Libra on a free chart is, in most cases, looking at Pluto plus two others. That is a real stellium under the common definition, but the personal part of it is the two others, and they are what the reading should start with.
Sign membership needs no orb: 0° and 29° Libra count the same. A Moon close to a sign boundary needs a birth time to settle. The sample covers births from 1950 to 2010 spread evenly through the calendar, so it ignores real birth seasonality and says nothing about anyone born after 2010. And three planets in Libra beside a Virgo or Scorpio Sun do not turn the person into a Libra. They add a Libran habit of weighing, which may be the part of the chart other people notice first.
Common questions
What does a Libra stellium in the 5th house mean?
A Libra stellium in the 5th house belongs to Gemini rising. It puts the cluster's diplomacy and need for partnership into romance, children, play and creative work, so love tends to start as conversation and creative work as collaboration. The 5th house stellium page covers the house in detail.
Is a Libra stellium rare?
No. 10.14% of 60,000 computed charts have three or more planets in Libra, among the highest rates of the twelve signs. It is far commoner for people born in the 1980s (22.4%) than in the 1990s (2.9%).
What does a stellium in Libra mean?
It concentrates the chart on fairness, partnership and weighing one claim against another. Libra is cardinal air ruled by Venus, so the person acts by proposing and negotiating. Most Libra stelliums also contain Pluto or Saturn, which makes them more serious about justice than the charming stereotype suggests.
Is the Sun weak in a Libra stellium?
The Sun is in fall in Libra, which in traditional terms means it works against the sign's grain: the self is always measured against another person. That shows as hesitation about one's own wants, not as a weak character. Saturn, by contrast, is exalted in Libra and is often the strongest planet in the cluster.
Why do so many people born in 1980–1982 have a Libra stellium?
Saturn and Pluto were both in Libra from 21 September 1980, Jupiter joined them until 27 November 1981, and Mars stayed from 16 December 1981 to 3 August 1982. That is why Jupiter + Saturn + Pluto and Mars + Saturn + Pluto are the two commonest Libra sets.
