Stellium in Scorpio: the cluster that keeps its counsel

A stellium in Scorpio is three or more planets in Scorpio, the fixed water sign ruled by Mars and, in modern astrology, by Pluto. It concentrates the chart on depth, loyalty and what is kept private. In 60,000 computed charts 9.85% have one, peaking at 16.4% of 1980s births, the years Pluto entered Scorpio.

Neptune, Uranus or Pluto: the outer planet in your Scorpio stellium dates it

Most Scorpio stelliums contain an outer planet (78.7% in the sample), yet not one of them contains two (0.0%). The three outer planets took turns in Scorpio and never overlapped, with gaps between them. Add up how often each appears, Neptune in 29.3%, Uranus in 13.8% and Pluto in 35.6%, and the total is exactly the outer-planet share. So the outer planet in a Scorpio stellium works like a date stamp, and it can be read as a short key.

Neptune in the cluster: born between December 1955 and November 1970. Neptune first touched Scorpio on 24 December 1955, went back and forth twice, then stayed from 6 August 1957 to 4 January 1970, with a final stretch from 3 May to 6 November 1970. The commonest set in the whole sign belongs here: the Sun, Mercury and Neptune (6.7% of Scorpio stelliums), a late-October or November birthday in one of those years.

Uranus in the cluster: born between November 1974 and November 1981. Uranus entered on 21 November 1974, held Scorpio from 8 September 1975 to 17 February 1981, and made a last visit from 20 March to 16 November 1981. Its typical set is the Sun, Mercury and Uranus (3.5%).

Pluto in the cluster: born between November 1983 and November 1995. Pluto arrived on 5 November 1983, slipped back into Libra for the summer of 1984, then stayed from 28 August 1984 to 17 January 1995, with a final visit from 21 April to 10 November 1995. Mars + Saturn + Pluto (5.2%) and Mercury + Venus + Pluto (2.8%) are its commonest forms.

No outer planet: 21.3% of Scorpio stelliums. These can come from any year, but the empty stretches make them likelier for births between November 1970 and November 1974, between November 1981 and November 1983, and after 1995. In the 2000s only Jupiter, from 26 October 2005 to 24 November 2006, helped, and the decade's rate falls to 3.5%.

The decade figures follow. The 1950s (10.4%) had Saturn in Scorpio from October 1953 to 1956 and Neptune's arrival; the 1960s (9.7%) had Neptune throughout; the 1970s (10.4%) had Neptune's tail and most of Uranus. The 1980s peak at 16.4% because four slow planets passed through: Uranus until November 1981, Jupiter from 27 November 1981 to 26 December 1982, Saturn from 29 November 1982 to 17 November 1985, and Pluto from November 1983, with Mars joining Saturn and Pluto between 11 January and 18 May 1984. The 1990s (8.6%) have Pluto until 1995 and Jupiter in 1993–94. Saturn and Uranus never shared Scorpio: Uranus left on 16 November 1981 and Saturn arrived over a year later.

Is Mars or Pluto the ruler of a Scorpio stellium?

Both, depending on the tradition. Mars is the traditional ruler and Pluto the modern one, and Shymea reads Mars first, with Pluto as a second opinion, because Mars changes sign every few weeks or months and so says something individual, while Pluto's sign is shared by everyone born within a decade or more. Mars is in 32.0% of Scorpio stelliums; when it is not, its sign and house show where the cluster's force is spent. With Mars in Sagittarius, that is belief and travel; with Mars in Virgo, careful work done alone.

The modern ruler behaves differently for each era. For anyone born from 1984 to 1995 Pluto is inside Scorpio, so the modern ruler sits within the cluster and the stellium answers to itself. For the Neptune generation of 1957–70, Pluto was in Virgo, so a modern reading sends the cluster's depth into the Virgo concerns of craft, routine and service. For the Uranus years, Pluto was in Libra, and the cluster's power goes into partnership.

Venus is in detriment in Scorpio, and it is a member of 51.7% of Scorpio stelliums, so detriment is the normal case here, not an exception. Venus wants ease and pleasure; Scorpio wants proof. The result is love that is all or nothing, generosity that expects loyalty in return, and a very long memory for what was said at a party three years ago. The Moon is in fall in Scorpio and appears in 20.3% of these clusters. Feelings are stored rather than shown: this is the person who says they are fine and delivers the full account a fortnight later. Fall is not coldness. It is feeling held under pressure.

Across the zodiac sits Taurus, simple possession: this is mine and I will keep it. Scorpio is the sign of what is shared and what is hidden: joint money, inheritances, debts and secrets. The Taurus–Scorpio axis is keeping against letting go, and a Scorpio-heavy chart often finds that holding on harder is its default answer to every problem.

What three or more planets in Scorpio do to a chart

Scorpio is water and fixed. Water is feeling and attachment, and fixed means it holds on. Put several planets there and the person does nothing by halves: friendships go back to primary school, a grudge lasts as long as a loyalty, and a job is either a calling or a prison. In a book club this is the member who says nothing for an hour and then makes the one remark that changes how everyone reads the ending.

Its subject matter is what people do not say aloud: money held jointly, inheritances, debts, sex, death, the family secret. That is why Scorpio is paired with the 8th house. A Scorpio cluster is often found in work that involves other people's confidential business: insolvency, probate, therapy, investigation, intensive care, the tax inspector's office. It is good in a crisis, because a crisis is the one time everyone else is finally talking about the real thing.

What it does not mean: a Scorpio stellium is not sinister, and it is not mainly about sex. The commonest versions are autumn birthdays, the Sun and Mercury with one other planet, and they describe people who pay close attention and keep their counsel. The intensity people read into the placement is mostly that attention, aimed at whatever matters to them.

Three made-up Scorpio stelliums, one from each outer-planet era

Imagine a birth in November 1963, with the Sun, Mercury and Neptune all in Scorpio. Neptune puts an ideal at the centre of a sign that distrusts anything on the surface, and the outcome is a private idealist. They believe deeply in something, a faith, a cause, a person, and almost never talk about it. At work they are the colleague who has volunteered at a hospice for twenty years and mentions it only when asked directly. The Neptune part is shared with everyone born from 1957 to 1970; the Sun and Mercury are what make it theirs.

Next, a chart from March 1984: Mars, Saturn and Pluto in Scorpio, all three in a sign Mars rules. Here stamina becomes the personality. This person finishes the marathon on a broken toe, stays in a hard marriage out of something closer to principle than habit, and takes failure as an instruction to try harder. The danger is the inability to stop, and their friends learn that the only way to end an argument is to leave the room.

A third invented case: a November birth in 1978, with the Sun, Mercury and Uranus together in Scorpio. Uranus adds the clean break. The person stays loyal for years without a word of complaint and then, once the decision has been made privately, leaves the job, the city or the relationship within a week, and does not look back. Nobody saw it coming, because they were not told.

Scorpio stellium in the 7th house (Taurus rising), the 6th (Gemini rising) and the 10th

Count whole-sign houses from the rising sign and Scorpio lands in a different house for each of the twelve; the table below lists them all with links. Two of the house versions are what people actually search for, and a third shows how Scorpio behaves in public.

Taurus rising puts Scorpio in the 7th house, opposite the Ascendant. Picture the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto there, a four-planet cluster that needs a birthday in late October or November of a year between 1984 and 1994. Partnership becomes total commitment: the person marries once, or tries to, merges finances on day one and treats the question of a prenuptial agreement as an insult. The partner is often the more visibly intense of the two, and the arguments, when they come, are about trust rather than money.

Gemini rising puts Scorpio in the 6th, the house of daily work, routines and the body's upkeep. The cluster turns the working week into a private discipline: the researcher who checks every source twice, the colleague whose desk drawer holds the files nobody else has read. The tradition links the 6th with health as symbolism of daily habits, so this version is often strict with its own routines. Relationships with co-workers are rarely casual; they are close alliances or quiet feuds.

Aquarius rising puts Scorpio in the 10th, career and reputation. The public face is discretion: the person is known as someone trusted with sensitive work, a reputation built slowly and guarded hard. Pluto in Aquarius crosses this Ascendant from 2024 to 2043 while squaring the 10th-house cluster, which makes it the rising sign for which the current sky most directly presses on a Scorpio stellium.

Scorpio stellium rules: the most personal sign stellium of the twelve

On the widest definition, all ten bodies, 9.85% of the 60,000 sample charts have three or more planets in Scorpio, 2.82% four or more and 0.5% five or more. Stopping at Saturn gives 4.37%. The rule that counts only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars gives 2.95%, and on that strict rule Scorpio comes first of all twelve signs.

That ranking fits the composition. Mercury is in 56.4% of Scorpio stelliums, the Sun in 54.6% and Venus in 51.7%, so more than half of them include each of the three planets that travel with the Sun. A Scorpio stellium is generational in its outer-planet member and personal in almost everything else, which is why the key above dates the outer planet and leaves the rest to the individual.

The sample's limits apply here in a specific way. It covers births from 1950 to 2010 only, so Saturn's most recent Scorpio stay, from 5 October 2012 to 23 December 2014 and again from 15 June to 18 September 2015, is outside it: children born then can have Saturn-led Scorpio stelliums that the figures do not count. A Moon near the start or end of Scorpio needs a birth time. And three planets in Scorpio beside a Libra or Sagittarius Sun add a Scorpio undertone; they do not change the Sun sign.

Scorpio stellium transits: the Pluto square from Aquarius, Jupiter in Leo, and 2028–2030

One long pressure has just ended. Uranus in Taurus opposed Scorpio from its first entry on 15 May 2018, through its main stay from 6 March 2019 to 7 July 2025, to a final pass that ended on 26 April 2026 (JPL DE442, UTC). Anyone with a Scorpio stellium has had every degree of it opposed by Uranus at some point in those eight years.

The pressure that replaces it is slower. Pluto has been in Aquarius since 19 November 2024 and stays until 2043, squaring Scorpio from the next fixed sign. Between mid-2026 and mid-2028 Pluto moves between 3° and 9° Aquarius, so planets at 3°–9° Scorpio are squared now. For the 1983–95 cohort whose cluster contains Pluto, this is transit Pluto square natal Pluto, a once-in-a-lifetime contact.

Jupiter in Leo also squares Scorpio until 26 July 2027. It stations retrograde on 13 December 2026 at 27°01′ Leo and direct on 13 April 2027 at 17°00′, so a Scorpio planet between 17° and 27° gets the square three times. Saturn opposes Scorpio from Taurus between 13 April 2028 and 1 June 2030, and Jupiter enters Scorpio on 24 September 2029 for a stay to 22 October 2030: a Jupiter return for anyone born between 27 November 1981 and 26 December 1982.

Common questions

What does a stellium in Scorpio mean?

It concentrates the chart on depth, privacy and loyalty: the person who holds on, keeps secrets and does nothing by halves. Scorpio is fixed water, ruled traditionally by Mars and in modern astrology by Pluto. Which outer planet the cluster contains, if any, tells you which generation it belongs to.

Is a Scorpio stellium rare?

Not especially. 9.85% of 60,000 computed charts have three or more planets in Scorpio, with a peak of 16.4% among people born in the 1980s and a low of 3.5% in the 2000s. Counting only the five personal planets, Scorpio has the highest rate of any sign, at 2.95%.

What does a Scorpio stellium in the 7th house mean?

A Scorpio stellium in the 7th house means Taurus rising. Partnerships, marriage and contracts carry the cluster's intensity, so commitment tends to be total and trust is the issue that matters most. The 7th house stellium page covers the house in full.

What does a 6th house stellium in Scorpio mean?

A 6th house stellium in Scorpio belongs to Gemini rising. Daily work, routines and the habits around the body become intense and private, and working relationships tend to be close alliances or quiet rivalries. Any health link is symbolic of habits, not a medical forecast.

Is Mars or Pluto the ruler of a Scorpio stellium?

Mars is the traditional ruler and Pluto the modern one. Mars is the more individual guide because it changes sign often, so read its sign and house first and treat Pluto as a co-ruler. For people born from 1984 to 1995, Pluto is inside the Scorpio cluster itself.

The sign gives the style; the house it lands in needs your birth time. The calculator finds both.
