Stellium in Leo: what the cluster wants, and who actually has one

A stellium in Leo is three or more planets in Leo, the fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun. It concentrates the chart on authorship, pride and being seen to stand behind what you make. In 60,000 computed charts 6.1% have one, but the rate is uneven: 15.8% of 1950s births, about 3–5% of every decade since.

Find out if you have a stellium in Leo

What a stellium in Leo concentrates

A sign stellium tells you how a person does things; a house stellium tells you where. Leo is the how of someone who needs to be the author. Three or more planets there and the chart keeps asking the same question in different rooms: is this mine, and will anyone see that it is mine? The thinking (Mercury), the wanting (Venus), the fighting (Mars) all take on the Leo habit of signing their work.

Element and modality do most of the explaining. Leo is fire, so it starts things on enthusiasm rather than evidence, and it is fixed, so once started it does not let go. That combination is why a Leo stellium reads as loyal and as stubborn in the same breath. The person who stays with a failing band for eleven years because it is their band, or keeps defending a decision at work long after the room has moved on, is showing the fixed side. The person who volunteers to give the toast with ten minutes' notice is showing the fire.

Pride is the word people reach for, and it is the right word if it is read exactly. Leo's pride is not vanity about looks. It is the need for one's effort to be recognised as one's own. A Leo-heavy colleague will do the unglamorous part of a project without complaint and then go quiet and cold if a manager presents it as a team effort. Credit, not applause, is the currency. Generosity is real too, and very large, but it tends to come with the giver's name on it.

Three imagined Leo stelliums

Say you have the Sun, Mercury and Mars in Leo, which in the sample is the single commonest Leo cluster (8.2% of them). You were born somewhere between late July and late August. You argue well and you argue to win, and the problem at work is never your ideas; it is that you present them as settled before anyone else has spoken. In a marriage you are the one who plans the holiday, books it and then takes it personally when nobody thanks you on the second day.

Suppose instead the cluster is Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. That set is the second commonest (7.8%), and it is not personal at all: it belongs to everyone born in two short windows, 24 August to 17 November 1955 and 10 June to 7 July 1956, when all three slow planets sat in Leo together. If that is your birth, the stellium describes your cohort's appetite for self-invention more than it describes you. What makes it yours is the house it falls in and whether your Sun or Moon touches it.

Or picture the Moon, Venus and Saturn in Leo. Saturn is in detriment in Leo, the sign opposite its own Aquarius, and here it puts a ration on warmth. Affection is real but measured, praise is given carefully and received suspiciously, and there may be a parent somewhere in the story who loved you on condition of results. Saturn is the planet least often found in Leo stelliums (12.2% of them), which is one reason this version feels so unlike the stereotype.

Is a Leo stellium generational? The 1950s answer

Mostly, for one decade. Pluto was in Leo from June 1939 to August 1957, apart from a winter dip into Virgo in 1956–57 and a last brief return in 1958, and Uranus joined it, on and off, from 24 August 1955 to August 1962. Any personal planet passing through Leo in those years found company already waiting, which is why 15.8% of the 1950s births in the sample have three or more planets in Leo. In every decade since, the figure sits between 3.0% and 5.3%.

The 2000s are the next highest, at 5.3%, and the reason is ordinary rather than generational: Jupiter was in Leo from August 2002 to August 2003 and Saturn from July 2005 to September 2007. Someone born in August 2006 had Saturn in Leo waiting for their Sun and Mercury, and a three-planet cluster with no outer planet in it.

So the age of the person matters before the reading starts. A Leo stellium in a chart born after 1962 is almost always built from the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, the Moon, Jupiter or Saturn, and it is about that individual. One in a chart born in the mid-1950s probably contains Pluto, Uranus or both, and it describes a generation first and the person second. The table above gives the decade-by-decade figures.

The Sun owns the sign: reading the cluster through its ruler

Every planet in Leo answers to the Sun, which rules the sign, and the Sun's position is the first thing to check in any Leo stellium. In about six in ten Leo stelliums (59.6%) the Sun is one of the planets, which closes the loop: the ruler is at home among the planets it rules, and the cluster is self-directed. It does not wait for permission. People with this version often describe a sense that their life has one main project and that everything else is supporting cast.

When the Sun is not in the cluster, the Leo planets work for wherever the Sun is. A Leo stellium with the Sun in Virgo puts the heat of Leo at the service of a craft, a routine or a standard of competence; a Leo stellium with the Sun in Cancer serves a family. Read the Sun's sign and house before you read the cluster, because that is where the cluster's effort is being sent.

Two dignity notes are worth having. The Sun is in its domicile in Leo and needs no help there. Saturn is in detriment, so a Saturn inside the cluster is the planet working against the sign's grain, and it is usually where the person's self-doubt lives. Leo has no traditional exaltation. Its opposite sign is Aquarius, the sign of the group over the individual, and that axis (the one against the many) is the argument a Leo stellium spends its life having.

Which house your Leo stellium falls in, by rising sign

The sign describes the style; the house, counted from your rising sign, describes the arena. The table below gives the whole-sign house for each rising sign and links to the page for that house, where the cluster's subject is covered in detail.

Three placements change the picture most. With Scorpio rising, Leo is the 10th house, and the need to be the author becomes a career that has to carry the person's name. With Virgo rising, Leo is the 12th, the house behind the Ascendant, and the result is a Leo cluster that performs offstage: the ghostwriter, the producer, the person who would rather run the show than be in it. With Aquarius rising, Leo is the 7th, and the pride and the loyalty go into the partner, who is often the more visibly Leo of the two.

Jupiter is crossing every Leo stellium now, 2026 to 2027

Jupiter entered Leo on 30 June 2026 and stays until 26 July 2027 (dates computed from JPL DE442, UTC). It stations retrograde on 13 December 2026 at 27°01′ Leo and turns direct on 13 April 2027 at 17°00′, so a natal planet between 17° and 27° of Leo is crossed three times and anything below 17° once. A transit through a stellium is a sequence, not a single event: Jupiter reaches each planet in zodiacal order, and the subject of that planet gets its turn. The rising-sign pages for Jupiter in Leo give the house it is crossing.

Two slower contacts run alongside it. Saturn in Aries (2026 to April 2028) trines Leo from the other fire sign, which tends to turn a Leo cluster's ambitions into something with a schedule. Pluto, between 3° and 9° of Aquarius from mid-2026 to mid-2028, opposes the first ten degrees of Leo; planets there are under a long, slow pressure to stop performing a version of themselves that no longer fits. Only the early degrees are touched in this window.

Is it a stellium? Three counting rules, and the limits

Definitions disagree, so the number depends on the rule. Counting all ten bodies from the Sun to Pluto, 6.10% of charts have three or more planets in Leo and 1.43% have four or more. Leaving out Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the share falls to 3.69%. Counting only the five personal bodies (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) it is 2.49%. The stricter the rule, the less generational the cluster and the more it says about one person.

Sign stelliums need no orb: three planets anywhere between 0° and 29° of Leo count, even if they are too far apart to be conjunct. That is the main difference from a conjunction, and a cluster spread from 2° to 28° behaves more like a theme than a single knot. The Moon is the only planet that can change sign during the day you were born, so a Moon-dependent Leo stellium needs a birth time to confirm.

Two honest limits on the figures. They come from births spread evenly through 1950 to 2010, so they ignore the fact that Leo is one of the commonest Sun signs in registered births, which slightly understates any Sun-in-Leo cluster, and they say nothing about anyone born after 2010. And a Leo stellium does not make you a Leo: if your Sun is in Cancer and three other planets are in Leo, you may well relate more to Leo than to your Sun sign, which is the most common reason people go looking for this page.

Common questions

Is a Leo stellium rare?

Not very. In 60,000 computed charts 6.10% have three or more planets in Leo and 1.43% have four or more. That is rarer than a stellium in any sign from Virgo to Aquarius in the same sample, because the slow planets spent less of 1950–2010 in Leo.

What does a stellium in Leo mean?

It puts the chart's weight on authorship: making things, standing behind them and needing that ownership recognised. Leo is fixed fire, so the cluster starts on enthusiasm and does not let go. The house it falls in, counted from your rising sign, says which part of life gets that treatment.

Can I have a Leo stellium if my Sun sign isn't Leo?

Yes. About four in ten Leo stelliums in the sample (40.4%) do not include the Sun. Mercury and Venus are the usual members, since they stay close to the Sun, so a Cancer or Virgo Sun often brings one or both of them into Leo.

Is a Leo stellium generational?

For people born in the 1950s, often. Pluto was in Leo until 1957 and Uranus from 1955 to 1962, and 15.8% of 1950s births in the sample have a Leo stellium. For later decades the rate is 3.0–5.3% and the cluster is usually personal planets.

What does a Leo stellium in the 5th house mean?

That is Aries rising, where Leo falls in the house it is traditionally paired with: children, romance, creative work and risk. The authorship drive goes straight into what the person makes and loves. The 5th house stellium page covers the house in full.

The sign gives the style; the house it lands in needs your birth time. The calculator finds both.
