Stellium in Sagittarius: the cluster that wants the long view
A stellium in Sagittarius is three or more planets in Sagittarius, the mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter. It gathers the chart around belief, distance and saying what you think is true. In 60,000 computed charts 10.57% have one, but among people born in the 1980s it is 26.9%, because Uranus and Neptune were both in the sign.

Belief, distance and a big map: what a Sagittarius stellium gathers
No sign's stelliums lean on the slow planets as hard as this one. In the sample, 84.6% of Sagittarius clusters contain Uranus, Neptune or Pluto, the highest share of all twelve signs, so there is a good chance the cluster was partly handed out to everyone born in the same few years. The decade section deals with that. What follows holds for any cluster in the sign.
Sagittarius is fire, which acts on conviction, and mutable, which keeps moving once it has acted. Three or more planets there organise the chart around a view of how things ought to be, and then send it further afield for evidence. The far-off is literal for some people (the second passport, the job with a departure lounge in it) and intellectual for others: the evening course in moral philosophy, the language learned on the commute. At work it is the colleague who rewrites the team's purpose statement unasked because the old one never said why any of it mattered. At home it is the person still arguing a point about fairness at the washing-up.
Some popular claims do not follow. A Sagittarius stellium does not make a person lucky, and plenty of people with one have never wanted to live abroad. Nor is it a promise of optimism: a belief can be bleak and still be held with Sagittarian force. The common thread is scale. The person thinks in terms of the whole map, and the house says which map.
Sagittarius clusters in practice: a 1983 cohort, a December student, an autumn 1982 traveller
Imagine a birth in June 1983. The Sun is in Gemini, while Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune sit in Sagittarius on the far side of the chart. That trio is the commonest Sagittarius set in the sample (13.8% of them), and it belongs to everyone born between 26 December 1982, when Jupiter entered, and 19 January 1984, when Neptune left; Jupiter followed it into Capricorn about twelve hours later. The cohort tends to treat belief as a shared project. For this one person the reading starts with the opposition between a Gemini Sun that wants facts and a crowd of planets that wants meaning, which from outside can look like someone forever retraining.
Take a chart with the Sun, Mercury and Pluto in Sagittarius instead (5.7%). Pluto's main stay ran from 10 November 1995 to 26 January 2008, and the Sun is in the sign from late November to late December, so this is a birthday in that season during those years. Births in December 1995, late 2006 and early December 2007 also carry Jupiter, which makes four. The three-planet version is the blunt student: the one who tells the seminar leader the reading list is out of date and turns out to be right, and later sends the eleven o'clock email explaining why a policy is wrong. Pluto makes the conviction total; Mercury, as the ruler section explains, makes the delivery the problem.
A made-up third example: Mars, Uranus and Neptune (3.9%). Mars joined the other two only from 20 September to 31 October 1982 and from 17 August to 5 October 1984, so the Sun is usually in Virgo or Libra. This is the restless traveller: three addresses in five years, a bad week solved by booking something. The risk is leaving a good situation because staying felt like standing still.
Why so many 1980s births have a Sagittarius stellium
Two slow planets shared the sign. Neptune was in Sagittarius from 6 November 1970 to 19 January 1984, with a last return from 23 June to 21 November 1984. Uranus arrived briefly in February 1981, then stayed from 16 November 1981 to 15 February 1988, returning from 27 May to 2 December 1988. With two bodies already in a sign, any third completes a stellium, and the Sun, Mercury and Venus pass through every year and the Moon every month. Hence 26.9% of the sample's 1980s births, the third-highest cell in the whole sign-by-decade table.
Saturn kept the run going, sharing the sign with Uranus from 17 November 1985 to 13 February 1988 and again from 10 June to 12 November 1988. That is the source of the Mars, Saturn and Uranus set (3.5%), which Mars completed from 2 February to 28 March 1986 and from 8 January to 13 February 1988, and of the Moon, Saturn and Uranus set (2.3%), which the Moon made for a couple of days every month.
Either side of that peak the rate falls: 11.8% in the 1970s on Neptune plus Jupiter's 1971–72 visits, 7.8% and 9.8% in the 1990s and 2000s on Pluto and Jupiter, and only 2.3% in the 1960s, when no slow planet but Jupiter visited, and only briefly in 1960.
So, plainly: most Sagittarius stelliums are cohort placements. Counting just the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars, only 2.18% of charts have three in Sagittarius, about a fifth of the all-ten figure and the steepest drop of any sign. If you were born in 1983, much of your school year shares the cluster, and the personal part of the reading is the house and whichever personal planets have joined it.
Jupiter rules the Sagittarius cluster, and Mercury is uncomfortable in it
Jupiter disposes of every planet in Sagittarius, so its sign and house come first. In about a third of the sample's Sagittarius stelliums (33.9%) Jupiter is inside the cluster, at home in its own sign, and the beliefs are self-generated. When Jupiter is elsewhere, the convictions get spent in its territory. A chart born in March 1984, with Uranus still in Sagittarius and Jupiter already in Capricorn, sends its big ideas into a qualification or some other structure that has to be built before it can be believed in.
Mercury is the planet to watch. It is in detriment in Sagittarius, the sign opposite its own Gemini, and it is in nearly half of these clusters (46.3%). The sign's reputation for saying too much, too soon, belongs mostly here: Mercury wants the exact word and the checked fact, Sagittarius the principle and the verdict, so the person talks in finished judgements. The leaving-party remark meant as honesty and heard as an insult is far more often a Mercury-in-Sagittarius event than a Sun-in-Sagittarius one. If Mercury is absent, the tactless stereotype may not apply at all. If it is present, the skill is learning to show the working, which is why the placement suits lecturers and leader writers who have learned to make a big claim stand up.
The opposite sign is Gemini, and the argument across the axis is between the fact and the meaning, the local and the far away. That axis is live now, because Uranus has been in Gemini since April 2026.
Your Sagittarius stellium by house: Gemini, Leo and Pisces rising
The sign sets the manner; the house, counted from the rising sign, sets the subject. The table below gives the whole-sign house for every rising sign. The 9th is Sagittarius's natural house, so with Aries rising the sign and house say the same thing twice: education, law, publishing, travel and belief.
Three risings change the reading most. With Gemini rising the cluster is in the 7th, opposite the person, and the beliefs arrive through a partner: the spouse from another country or faith, the co-founder who is also the teacher. With Leo rising it is the 5th, and the creed goes into children, romance and making things, like the parent who turns every holiday into a field trip. With Pisces rising Sagittarius is the 10th, and the career itself carries the belief: the barrister, the editor, the person whose job title is a statement of principle.

Uranus in Gemini opposes Sagittarius stelliums, 2026 to 2032
Uranus entered Gemini on 26 April 2026 for its main stay, which runs to 3 August 2032 (JPL DE442, UTC). Each degree of Gemini faces the same degree of Sagittarius, so this is a slow opposition moving through the sign at about four and a half degrees a year. Uranus stationed retrograde on 10 September 2026 at 5°42′ Gemini and turns direct on 8 February 2027 at 1°41′, so the first six degrees of Sagittarius are being opposed now.
For anyone born from late 1981 to 1988 this is a double event: their natal Uranus is in Sagittarius, so the opposition to their stellium is also their Uranus opposition, the transit usually filed under midlife. Those born in 1981–82, with Uranus early in the sign, get it first; those born in 1988 wait until about 2031–32. Oppositions work through other people, so the usual shapes are a partner who changes, a collaborator who leaves, or an offer that makes the old plan look small. It is felt over a year or more, and it is not a forecast of disaster.
The 2030s add weight. Saturn joins Uranus in Gemini from 1 June 2030 to 14 July 2032, and Jupiter is back in Sagittarius from 22 October 2030 to 15 November 2031, opposing Uranus exactly on 20 January 2031 (19°23′), 20 June 2031 (23°25′) and 30 October 2031 (26°56′). That visit is also a Jupiter return for the whole 1983 cohort.
The current fire transits pull the other way. Saturn is in Aries from 14 February 2026 to 13 April 2028, Neptune entered Aries on 26 January 2026, and Jupiter is in Leo until 26 July 2027. All three trine Sagittarius, which tends to give a cluster's plans a schedule.
Counting a Sagittarius stellium: the rule moves the answer nearly fivefold
With all ten bodies counted, 10.57% of charts have three or more planets in Sagittarius, 2.94% have four and 0.53% have five. Leave out Uranus, Neptune and Pluto and the three-planet figure is 3.72%; keep only the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars and it is 2.18%. No sign loses more under the strict rules. Astrologers who drop the outer planets have a fair case here, since a Uranus-and-Neptune trio shared by half a school year describes the year more than the pupil. Against that, the house still varies by birth time. This page counts all ten.
A little over one Sagittarius stellium in five (20.8%) relies on the Moon, which crosses a sign in about two and a half days, so those need a recorded birth time; the other members need only the date. The sample spreads births evenly over 1950 to 2010, so it ignores seasonal birth patterns and misses the 2015–17 Saturn and 2018–19 Jupiter generations in Sagittarius. And the cluster does not make you a Sagittarius: a 1983 birth can have the Sun in any sign, and someone in that position may recognise themselves in the stellium more than in their Sun sign.
Common questions
How rare is a stellium in Sagittarius?
Less rare than most. 10.57% of 60,000 computed charts have three or more planets in Sagittarius, level with Virgo at the top of the sign table. Birth year matters more than anything: 26.9% of 1980s births against 2.3% of 1960s births.
Why do so many people born in the 1980s have a Sagittarius stellium?
Uranus and Neptune were both in Sagittarius from November 1981 to January 1984, and Uranus stayed until 1988 with Saturn alongside from late 1985. With two slow planets already there, one passing personal planet made three.
What will Uranus in Gemini do to my Sagittarius stellium?
From April 2026 to August 2032 it opposes Sagittarius degree by degree, the first few degrees now. Oppositions tend to work through partners and collaborators. If you were born between late 1981 and 1988, it is also your Uranus opposition.
Does a Sagittarius stellium make you blunt?
Mostly when Mercury is in it. Mercury is in detriment in Sagittarius and appears in 46.3% of these clusters, which is where the reputation comes from. A Mars, Uranus and Neptune cluster is more likely to be restless than tactless.
What does a stellium in Sagittarius mean?
It concentrates the chart on belief, education, distance and the meaning behind facts. Sagittarius is mutable fire ruled by Jupiter, so the cluster acts on conviction and keeps moving. The house, counted from your rising sign, says where.
The sign gives the style; the house it lands in needs your birth time. The calculator finds both.
